ABOUT US

TotallyADD is dedicated to helping adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD – we use the acronyms interchangeably) and those affected by it, (family, employers, health professionals, etc.) to liberate themselves from fear, shame, and stigma and create a life they love. Our mission is personal—we are a team of people with ADD or affected by it.

Inspired by our documentary ADD & Loving It?!, TotallyADD.com supports our mission by offering a healthy dose of humor, knowledge, and social interaction. The information you will find here is reliable, and presented in a memorable and fun way. We cover topics such as: symptoms, steps for getting a proper diagnosis, associated conditions, treatment approaches, when and how medication is used, and tips for managing everyday life.

TotallyADD is a division of Big Brain Productions Inc., a privately-owned company based in Ontario, Canada.  TotallyADD.com was initially created with funding from the Canadian Television Fund (CTF) and Ontario Tax Credits. (We tell you this because so many people ask if pharmaceutical companies paid for any of this and the answer is absolutely not.)

This website is funded through sales of our products in our online shop, donations, and through speaking engagements.

OUR HISTORY

When we (Rick and Ava Green) began shooting a documentary about ADHD, Rick gave it the working title Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Adults: Symptoms, Diagnosis and…”Oh Look – Cows!“   Ava gave it a shorter title,  ADD & Loving It?! and it stuck.

As we began shooting interviews for the documentary, some things became painfully obvious.  First was the amount of misinformation and fear that surrounds ADHD—no one could believe that we were looking for facts and not controversy.  Second was the lack of help for anyone seeking a diagnosis. There’s a shortage of doctors trained to diagnose and treat ADHD, and it’s a worldwide problem.

ADD & Loving It?!  turned out to be an inventive and often hilarious look at adult ADHD. This was not too surprising, since it featured actor/comedian Patrick McKenna (and his wonderful wife, Janis), who worked together with Rick on the long-running television comedy series, The Red Green Show.  Both Rick and Patrick have been diagnosed with ADHD–Rick several years ago, and Patrick during the making of the documentary.
For his work as an advocate for adults with ADHD, and as creator, writer and director, Rick has been awarded with: the Celebrity Transforming Lives Award from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation, The Order of Ontario, and The Order of Canada.
