Challenge/Game/Tool/Strategy/Idea #5
Rick here. Sorry for being out of the loop for a while. We went to Paris for our first family vacation in a decade. Awesome. Travel is ADHD heaven.
So, I’m back and it’s time to try out a new strategy, taking on a new practice. We’ve been calling these Challenges and Games, but I realized that’s not what I had in mind.
It’s more like an ADHD Flash Mob. There are thousands of us on this website. The idea is for a ton of us to commit to trying out one new tool or strategy. Like a big mass experiment.
You read the ‘Strategy.’
You type, ‘I’m in.’
Then you try out the ‘Strategy’.
Later you check back in and share what worked, what didn’t, whether you like this strategy… Read more
The Game of Dragon Slaying
Hello! Time for our next game. (A few days late, due to a bad cold. Sorry!)
The last game was about awareness and language and noticing. This new one is about taking action in the face of chaos and overwhelm.
Do you have way more on your plate that you can handle?
Who doesn’t, right? ADHD or not. I could easily list scores of things that need doing.
In fact, I have an ongoing To-Do List with hundreds of tasks, big and small. And the thing I’ve often spent the most time doing… is working on that To-Do list.
Literally.
It’ll be noon and I’m Read more
The Game of Noticing
So the game of noticing how much of what you say is either negative, opinion or simply unprovable has obviously struck a nerve.
Keep playing. Keep sharing what you’re noticing.
(If you haven’t been playing, read the Blog after this one, NO MORE CHALLENGES! GAME TIME.)
This morning as I was spreading almond butter on my toast I saw an ad on TV about empowering young girls. (Which sounds like a positive thing, right?)
It consisted of a series of girl’s voices making different solemn pledges.
And every single line was a negative. All about NOT.
Can’t remember the exact wording but it was stuff like:
“I will not exclude Read more
No More Challenges! Game Time
Okay, there will be no more challenges. Instead, we are going to play Games.
Way more fun.
This first game runs 10 days. It’s simple but may astonish you.
BTW, during April TotallyADD.com is focusing on Women & ADHD. This game may resonate for women with ADHD and women living with ADDers. Why? The game involves language, and women’s brain have more space dedicated to language than men’s. Whereas men have Read more
Challenge Five: The Old Switcheroo

Last week’s challenge was complex. But powerful.
This week’s challenge is simple. And also powerful.
Here it is: Do things with your ‘other’ hand.
If you hold your comb, hairdryer or brush with your right hand, switch to your left for one whole week.
If you always apply your shaving cream with one hand, switch. (I’ll bet you didn’t notice you always do things the same way.) If you’re brave, Read more
Challenge 4: Three More Tricks!
Okay, so our fourth challenge is about completing something that’s been hanging over your head. An unfinished project. If you’re new to this challenge, check below, where it says, THE FOURTH CHALLENGE: STEP ONE and then read STEP TWO, THREE AND FOUR. Then scroll back here and read these three tips. Cause these are some extra strategies, or tricks, to keep you moving.
***********
Okay, these final three are not really Steps, more like Strategies to use for attacking each step, or Tricks to keep you moving forward.
PRACTICE ONE:
Enlist help. For example, Rohwer, (SEE COMMENTS) might spread the word on Facebook, asking if anyone knows about painting, asking if they could help for an hour or two, perhaps in return for a nice dinner.
ADDers can get so locked in our heads, and so ready to Read more
