The Holidays Bring Us Together
Welcome to all the new Totally ADD members who have been flooding the site lately. Maybe you’ve recently seen ADD & Loving It?! on PBS in the U.S. and Canada or maybe you’re following us on Twitter now. Whatever the reason, the buzz is at a tipping point. People are spreading the word and the word is that we are hot. Personally, I think people are coming to the site because of my new hair cut. My wife says it makes me look really thin. Well, at least my dog likes it. But then he likes eating from my garbage.
Everyone, of course, is entitled to their opinion.
But the website is more than just opinion. We pride ourselves in speaking to what you want to hear about and what matters. We speak to the facts. Rick asks the questions that everone has. He is the Oprah of the ADD world, er…just not as tall….and ah…not a female and er….not black and yea….not a billionaire, but pretty well everything else. I speak to the science and hopefully present very complex information in a way that people can reliably use. We bring people together in forums, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, a newsletter and much, much more.
But if you loved us so far, you will love us more in the new year. I can’t tell you yet, but something big is coming. I mean BIG. In anticipation of our BIG project, why don’t you let us know what you want to see. As we are in the middle of production, we’d love to hear your ideas. After all, the website is about YOU and we want to make it as personal as it can be. If you don’t know us yet, here is a link you will appreciate: About the Team. Now you know us. If you’re new and navigating the hours of videos, try the TADD tour. This blog is our way to keep connected and for you to get to know us even more. This is the ADHD family and we are a part of your world no matter what part of the world you are from.
You may notice that new members are from everywhere. Our reach is global. And if you are a new member, well, let the journey begin. You are our friend. We are spreading the word in our own way with workshops and lectures. For example, I will be in Qatar again on Wednesday meeting with ADHD specialists for a discussion on the needs of ADDers in that country and throughout the Middle East. I will be delivering a lecture on ADHD Saturday to a conference on mental health. Two days later, I am giving an ADHD lecture in the Caribbean. You will likely hear from me again about what happened and how it relates to you. I will be working on my tan. Caio for now, ADDers.

You say the visit to Qatar and its ADHD specialists is to discuss “the needs of ADDers in that country and throughout the Middle East. ” Does “throughout the Middle East” include Israel?” I’m just saying’ …
Wow, though, that convention centre was only about 10 days old when the conference took place!
This all sounds fantastic. There are a few things I would like to see addressed in your future work:
One of the leading minds in education reform and creativity, Ken Robinson, has been knighted, has given a Ted lecture, and many other widely viewed lectures, wherein he describes ADD/ADHD as a “modern” and “fictitious” epidemic.
Rather than focusing on mis/over diagnosis as his concern, he states, and this is a quote, “Don’t mistake me, I don’t mean to say there is no such thing as Attention Deficit Disorder. I’m not qualified to say if there is such a thing. I know that a great majority of psychologists and pediatricians think there is such a thing, but it is still a matter of debate. What I do know for a fact, is it’s not an epidemic. These kids are being medicated as routinely as we had our tonsils taken out, and on the same whimsical basis and for the same reason: medical fashion.”
He has some very interesting ideas on education and creativity, some that I agree with, but he espouses very dangerous misinformation regarding ADD/ADHD, and he is an incredibly well respected thinker and influential speaker. His highly popular lectures, which have been recorded and put online, have been viewed by millions. I would like to see a thoughtful video response from leading scientific minds to the popular misconceptions he espouses regarding ADD/ADHD.
I would also like to see Totally ADD conduct an interview with Russell A. Barkley Ph.D. I happened upon clips of his lectures on YouTube, and he has been a great resource for understanding my ADHD. His articulation of the “intention deficit” aspect of ADD/ADHD, and his assertion that “hyperfocus” is really “perseveration”, have helped my journey considerably.
Thank you for your site, your film, and your work. It has changed my life for the better.
BIG project – awesome! Umm – More ADD friendly ideas to try! Needed areas: home, finances, work, relationships, wellness – well, you know, everything on Oprah, except made for ADD’ers!!!
Also – write a book for our doctors, psychologist and psychiatrists to help them get up to speed with all that’s changed since they were originally trained about ADD back in the 70′s – something that explains to them patiently that adult ADD does exist, but still makes them feel good about themselves – haha
Maybe if you put really cute kittens or a ferrari on the cover, they’ll pick it up!!!
Where’s Shemp?
I like the picture except it’s not centered too well. The centering would probably be more appropriate for three hot chicks in bikinis. You guy forget to wear your ties? If Dr. Jain needs something to do with his hand he could hold up two fingers behind Rick’s head as little devil horns. Just the first comments that popped into my head. Thanks guys.
