AnonymousInactiveSeptember 2, 2011 at 2:07 pmPost count: 14413I have been seeing a psychologist for the past year, every 2 weeks. She specialized in CBT but not with ADD people. I’m sure you can guess where I’m going with this:) I have been unable to complete most of the homework she assigns to me, I cannot relate to the identify the situation and the emotions and procrastination is BIG with me. I am just wondering if this is normal for ADDers and we need some kind of altered CBT, or if it’s just me. I am on medication, Dexedrine 30mg, and before that I was on Concerta 54mg. Both meds really only give me the awareness of all the things “wrong” with me, all the things that prevent me from being “normal”. I have read SO many books about ADD/ADHD, visited SO many websites for more info and I am currently feeling a little overloaded with information about ADD/ADHD. I just finished reading You Mean I’m not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?! by Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo, and I am disappointed to find that really, the coaching for ADD is just a way to get you to try like crazy to be normal, organized etc.etc.etc. It’s not about accepting who you are, adapting who you are to the world you are trying to create. It’s more about trying to make yourself like everyone else that is deemed “normal”. Am I right, or did I miss something important?
REPORT ABUSESeptember 2, 2011 at 7:28 pm #107955Started CBT several years ago. It is helpful, but the progress is slow and small steps. The first day I took medication my impulse control was improved more than from the years of CBT.
I’ve posted this in other threads, but in case you haven’t seen it…
