    Andreaaaaaah,
Thank you for that, but, no one here is any more awesome than yourself.
I got into numbers and statistics for some unknown reason, and it’s sometimes eye-opening to think about.
Last time around, our President was elected by 51% of the vote. That seems colossal until you remember that LESS than 50% of the population voted. He was elected by about 20% when you see that.
The AVERAGE is, by definition, the total of the whole divided by the number of the whole.
If 25% of the population are overachievers, and the trailing 25% are real pond algae, then only 50%of the population is average.
If that “average is in control, they are telling ONE FULL HALF of the population that, good or bad, that half doesn’t count.
Mark Twain said there are three kinds of liars: there are Liars; thee are DAMNED Liars, and there are statistics.

The overachiever in a machine shop puts out more parts of better quality than the average worker. Let’s call it 90 out of 100, because nobody is perfect.
The underachiever produces 20; and the true average guy makes between 40 and 60.
The average guy wants the overachiever to cut back. Why? Because the overachiever makes him look bad, and the “trophy” will go to that overachiever.
Rather than go out and put himself through classes and look for advanced experience ON HIS OWN TIME in order to better his skills and abilities, he will instead gather the rest of his 50% crowd, and tell the company and union, and public in general that it’s UNFAIR that this person produces more. They have an “unfair Advantage of some sort, and they should hold back and produce less, so the “average” LOOKS (not is) better.
The company loses production, but the average wants higher wages this year because the workers are producing average results, but LOOKS as if they are doing their best, even though they have not sold the extra product that Could have been produced by the over achiever, and therefor have less profitability.

I put all of this here just to show ONE of the ways statistics and “averages” can get twisted around.

They give trophies to kids for standing on the ground as if they overcame gravity and spontaneously fly. That’s not nonsense.
That’s what my parents would have called criminal stupidity.
You are teaching that they will be rewarded if they DON’T try, and will be ignored or chastised if they DO !! Say: “entitlement”.
Tha ADDer may be in the upper, middle or lower brackets, depending on the severity of the individual (NOT AVERAGE!) affliction, but, if he wants something different, then he has to DO something different to get there, and asking Bob to do It isn’t going to help Him.
We are completely normal for people with add. Just as a veteran who suffers PTSD is , indeed, “Normal” for a person who has gone through all that.
I appreciate the providence that brought me to this site. A place where we build each other up, while trying to not let ourselves beat us down. Which, as you know , we are prone to do.
You have survived in the face of odds for this many years. That’s worth some self pride by itself.
You have your man who loves you. And did from the get-go. And unless you’re paying him for it, then, you too, have the love of someone who owes you nothing. And THAT Andreaaaaaah, is worth being proud of. He saw Something in you that was SO cool, It outweighed anything else.
You are alright in my book, so be proud of that too. I really don’t give that away for nothin.

Richard, I will also throw in that my friends are my family. Not many, but very close.
I forever owe them for helping me to see and understand that those efforts that I made for years that I thought were wasted because of our natural tendency to put ourselves down actually did achieve good things, and were worthy of respect.
And worthy of self respect. That’s huge!
Richard: Respect Yourself. Simply that. If you won’t blow your own horn, no one will. If you do, your friends will come to stand at your back.
I have the love of people who owe me nothing. Those things you can’t buy…

As for work relief, I tried selling insurance once. Suits! Ties! Shiny shoes! Aauughgh!!!
I took up small engine repair as a hobby. A few bucks, and you turn a broken one into something good for a neighbor. And you get greasy and dirty. Be a kid and have fun stuff.
And if one doesn’t wanna give in; at some point, you push it out in the driveway, pick up your eight pound sledge hammer, and beat that silly bastard til it’s a tin potatoe chip. Maybe you’re out ten bucks. Worth it. Great therapy.

    Janinecody and Richard,
I think the scenario from Young Frankenstein went “Abby, Abby, Abby somebody.” “ABNORMAL?!” “That’s him, d’you know’m?”

I can understand if a person is aware of internal energies that THey want to alter. If their teacher, classmate, coworker, etc wants them to change, they should say shove off.
To be honest, I may be a little paranoid about meds. I have survived without, and I would not at all want to become in any way dependent on them.
Having said that, I posted somewhere else that when I tried mushrooms when I was young, a side affect to the high, was I noticed that my body relaxed to the point I could fall through a sieve.
If you could isolate that, you’d sleep like a baby.
I should ask; again, being new: is it OK to ask about really whacked out theories ,drugs, little “I wonder if…” things, on a site like this?
I truly do not want to offend anyone, but I have no clue what “pc” is in this realm, or if it exists here.
There is SOOO much that I want to ask about now that I know I don’t have an “insane label” waiting for me.
But: they do say I have ”An insaneable right to the persuit of happiness” , right?

    Richard,
    Cool!
It just seems to me that whoever made up the standard had to favor the one over the other.
Maybe there was a vote on what would be considered “normal”, but the add guy wasn’t old enough to vote yet, so he lost by default.
Being recent, and having lived for 67 years without meds, since I didn’t know, y’know? Managed to actually move up a rank to middle class from where my family was when I was small. Worked hard at being there for others even when I couldn’t be there for myself. Got to be an expert at wearing a mask. Awesome chameleon. And I made it here on what I supplied, and that great grace shown to me by my God. There hasn’t been a lot of charity in my life, but there have been blessings that can’t be bought or sold.
Totally wrecked myself and my life twice, crawled into a bottle a day for 15years, and it shut off like a faucet one day. No shakes, no haze, felt great, good appetite. Like I never touched alcohol.
    THAT is a blessing.
    I digress. SURPRISE!!
It’s just that I have managed to thrive to a point, and I am proud of it. I am genuinely good at what I do, and that ain’t easy. I’m not going to let anyone say that I got there on somebody’s largesse.
In an underground comic book in the 70’s, a man name of Rand Holmes wrote something that I think went:
“My thoughts, dreams and aspirations are just as valid as those of any man, living or dead.”
    Sounds good to me.

    Janinecody,
    Something in your last paragraph:
It may be my responsibility to be a good, cognizant person for MY sake, but I don’t owe a thing to self-righteous blowhards that think they have some “superiority” card to play. To them my behavior may seem aberrant. But since everyone is supposed to be truly equal these days, then I would say that anything I am BORN with is exactly as valid as anything they were born with.
In other words, that person cannot say “abnormal” to me.
I should be able to demand that they act like me just as much as they demand I act like them. Anything else is nothing more or less than hypocrisy.
    Just sayin…

    Reductoboomboom,
I am very new at dealing with this also, and I know just about Nothing about the various meds available or used.
However, I have told others about what I found in someone’s entry on the site.
I wake up after two hours, and make myself one twelve ounce cup of good coffee. Drink that and wait about fifteen minutes or so, and I can drop right off for a few more hours. Sometimes I’ll do that as much as three times a night.
I have to believe the caffeine is burning out the nervous energy that otherwise keeps my mind bouncing off the walls.
No guarantees, but you could try it once. It sounds like you have nothing to lose.
    Good luck to you.

Just give it that “mad scientist” bwah-ha-ha and carry on like ya have good sense. I like to keep ‘em fooled.
Being that I didn’t know about what’s been causing this all my life until only a couple months ago, I’ve told people for years that I’m “eccentric”.
It sounds better than bughouse nuts. If you’re rich, (I’m not) you are called eccentric. If you’re poor, you’re crazy. Semantics.
I have noticed all my life that if you allow yourself to be seen as “just a little off”, then when you DO get down to doing something really off the wall, people don’t make as big a thing out of it.
Now, if I KNOW about my adhd, is that taking unfair advantage? The flatlanders sure don’t seem to hold back when it comes to dishing it out, but by and large, I like to think I’m a better person than that.

I’m in this late, but… my dr gave me symbicort for a lung problem, and it seemed to set off a sleep problem such as you describe.
After three weeks of waking up at all hours, I heard a trick that seems to help. I make a good-side cup of coffee in the evening, and leave it in the microwave.
If I wake up, I immediately heat it up and drink it.
I have to believe (I’m not a dr or chemist) that the caffeine is burning out whatever is in my blood that’s keeping me awake.
I can drink that, and in about ten or fifteen minutes, I drowsy and can go back to bed and sleep.
True reason? Unknown. But, it seems to work.
Good luck. Or would that be Good night?

Einstein said insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Yet, I get up every day….

Yeah, I know I’m answering something eight years old, but it’s still pertinent.
And, thank you Rick, for all of this.

I observe the difference between religion and faith as what you DO as opposed to what you BELIEVE.
In that book, Jesus , himself, said “the letter of the law (religion) kills, but the spirit of the law (faith) gives life.” Yet it says “not one jot nor tittle shall pass away.” It says to me that faith should involve everything I do, and I should remember what the rules might be, but it also leaves room for me to be a human man.
My personal hero out of that book, next to God, would be the fictional character that Jesus spoke of as the “Priest and Publican” parable.
    I identify with the publican.
A guy who works for the “enemy government” because it’s the only job he can get, and his people, family and Everyone hates and detests him because he does. He’s under mandate to take care of his family, (find the “worse than a thief” reference) yet he has no help, and even the priest puts him down.
He stands , (and I would think, in the circumstances) his fists are clenched, his teeth are gritted, and he’s here to speak not to the priest, but directly to the One in charge.
The priest is claiming rights due to position and finishing easy tasks.
The Publican works his butt off, and he’s hated for it. He’s feeling like a failure with no way out (sound familiar to all the add people?) and yet he busts it trying. He has his pride that he feels entitled to, because he DOES try, and so, he cannot look down. He feels he falls far to short of the goal (sound familiar again?), so he cannot look up in pride, but beats himself in frustration and anger, and he’s not just asking for that forgiveness, he’s demanding it as tha wages for his effort. I would think he’s a little pissed off. Yet he knows he’s dealing with the Boss here, and as the created , he addresses his creator with respect for what He’s capable of. Yet, the seething…
And because of his humility, and his willingness to speak to the boss and keep trying, not his efforts, it says that he is vindicated. Not because of his religion, but because of his faith alone. And the priest is over in the corner bragging about himself, and is not mentioned in that vindication.

I have felt like that. And I know that anger and frustration. And that’s why that unnamed guy is my hero. He did it right.

What can I say? That’s been my sense of humor for most of my life.
I think it’s called black humor. I met a bunch of third year interns once who couldn’t find the humor in it. Then, they had to do six weeks in the ER. Big hospital, lotsa gun and knife action. When they came back from six sleepless, stressed out weeks, they understood. Go figure.

What is “true” and what is “truth” are two different things.
What is “true” is facts. Cold, hard, real.
What is “truth” is perception of those facts. Perception takes into account prejudice, pride, interruption, color-blindness, allergies, and anything else that can POSSIBLY affect the judgement of any individual or any group of individuals of any size.
What you actually do has very little to do with how many might see you.
I have friends who tell me I’m the salt of the earth, but I feel like a failure a lot of times, even though I can figure for myself that I actually DO do people good as much as I can, and sometimes I actually get it right and someone gets some good out of it.
I also have a few that, no matter what I do, will think that I am the orifice that is the black hole at the center of the universe. Not necessarily because of something I’ve done, but maybe what they -thought- they saw coupled with a half memory of something they heard about something similar, but unconnected, and I’m too busy to check for sure, but I’d rather be safe than sorry, so I’ll badmouth this gal so I don’t look like a sucker if She turns out to be bad . Oh: by the way, her name is Theresa, she’s a nun or something…
The book says Judge not that ye be not judged. I’m 67, and I try like hell not to, but it’s a bad habit to break.
Management is high stress in general, and anyone can be a scapegoat, because politics is at least half of what makes it go. How many politicians do you know that are straight forward?
By the way, politics is ALL perception. Tell someone to go to hell and leave them looking forward to the trip. There is no room for what’s “true”.
Chronic pain can cause your patience to shorten also, and mental pain can be as bad as physical. A very good friend once told me, “When it hurts bad enough, you’ll leave.” She was talking about relationships. I was talking about suicide. Apparently, my God has given me just enough toughness in the face of pain. I’m still here.
It’s not really a nice thing to say to anyone, but, if it comes to leaving or hurting, weigh your choices carefully. You could be the best manager they ever have, or, you could be the sucker getting played. You are the only one who can make the call for you.
Best of luck with it all.
