Bucklipe, is the “Nutritional Inattentive….” thing on this site or where? I heard about the coconut oil thing as it relates to dementia diseases but this is the first I’ve seen for ADD. What product(s) are you buying for the oil? And where? Thanks!

Same thing here. I’m on short-acting ritalin right now and the addition of caffeine — lots of caffeine — doesn’t seem to bother me. In fact, I seem to be really tired by bed time (that’s good, for me).

Hi, distractedmomma. Thanks for the posts on this — I have a consult this week with a psych to look at meds and am going thru the forum comparing info. I was esp. interested when I saw it’s related to Prozac; I took Prozac for depression when it first came out and had pretty good results for quite some time. I’m esp. interested in increasing productivity and feeling rested (wow, would THAT be a change for me).

Cranski, to say you’ve led a chaotic life is totally inadequate. In many ways, you have mustered up tremendous strength. One of the things I read about ADD/ADHD folks is that they are the calmest people in the room when there is a crisis. Hold onto that. You have made it to this site, so you have the skill set and the desire to find the solutions. Hopefully, the encouragement you find here, along with good professional help, will bring you closer to the life you envision.

Ok, not a rant. A novel! Now, I’m going back to read it.

Hey, Robbo, I’m a short-timer here but you already crack me up. Seriously, though, being on here a lot probably comes from the hyper-focusing place. We all want help and improvement (I sure do) and are focused in on finding it where we can. And it feels more valid from fellow travellers rather than the great unwashed sea of skeptics. The same reason that, as an animal rescuer, I spend a lot of time on those forums. We all wanna feel the love!

Seeing everyone’s insanely familiar experiences, I need to contribute my ADHD funny from the weekend. Having just had this whole TADD-ephiphany-experience in the last week., I decided to go back on my Ritalin. It’s the short-acting type. Around 8:30 on Saturday evening, I finished a phone call and went in to watch the end of an Indy car race with my husband. I was pretty into it (hey, Dario Franchetti almost won it) and when it was over, I went to do chores for my bunnies. Af few minutes later, my husband walked in and, as part of our feedback arrangement, told me that I had gone from, for lack of a better word, normal to mach-2-with-my-hair-on-fire in the space of — literally — moments. We figured out the time of my last dose and I had probably blown through the meds around that time. The disconcerting part is that I cannot feel the difference — at all! Now, I have set alarms in my smartphone to keep up with this. I hope…

And last night, I pulled out baby food to mix with meds for a bunny, sat down with bunny to watch part of “ADD & Mastering It”, put bunny to bed, and found all of my stuff on the counter this morning. And that’s just the tip of MY iceberg.

Goes to show that feedback IS important!

Thanks, Scattybird! Poor rabbits get darned little press. It’s daunting work and I know it contributes to my sense of being overwhelmed — so many bunnies, so little time. Still, it’s a “calling” so I need to improve my ADHD-coping skill set so I be more satisfied with what I DO get done as rescuer.

Really good advice, Larynxa. Kenyagirl, I’m back on the meds just to allow me to focus — I’m less depressed when I feel I’ve improved my organizational pallet and accomplished some goals during the day. I find it useful to get feedback from my family/friends — perhaps you could journal your progress so that you can SEE your progress. It’s very easy to get bogged down in the medication side-effects if you can’t put a finger on your progress.

Oh, hell, Larynxa. That sucks. At least I’m old enough to need bifocals!

I’ve been surfing the postings here and am convinced that I’ve found the right place. I rescue rabbits so I’ve been on animal rescuer forums for years. We’re all very opinionated and pretty much convinced that each one of us has the “truth” about rescue work, so we sometimes find ourselves at odds in spite of our common goals. The successful, diverse boards are the ones with good-hearted, supportive people. I’m glad to have found you guys!

Even thought this post has been up a while, I have to say that I also feel dehydrated. I just went back on Ritalin and I’m hoping this diminishes as I go along.

Robbo, I was sure Dr. Jain (and the TotallyADD peeps) were messing with us. Maybe not but it would be funnier if they were.
