My diagnosis of PTSD was by a Psychologist after much Counselling. After many years I finally got myself out of a very physically abusive relationship (just the tip of the iceberg) This, of course, had a profound effect on me and It did its damage, took its toll and my messed up head was the consequence.
Over the past 7 years, since I left that situation, the nightmares have stopped, the sleepless nights have stopped but there are still times I see my old partner’s “face” in people around me. It’s like my brain computes the sensory load inaccurately and by doing so I respond accordingly, which is negative and scary. Why? I dont know, that’s just what happens sometimes…usually when I’m feeling low.
Recognising these negative responses is the first step. So, I’m working hard at a “better me” and so far so good. Take care:)
