Medications did not work on him because they either put him to sleep or took away his appetite. All the way through high school he was in special education. HE TESTED POORLY IN COMMUNICATION AND COGNATIVE SKILLS BUT OFF THE CHART IN SPACIAL RECOGNITION. He constantly jumps up and down in his room throwing a sock in the air. He is now 28 years old. If we don’t remind him to eat,he forgets. He was stopped in drivers education from driving because he would focus on other things beside the road. He refuses to take public transit. If you ask him to assemble something, he will look at the instructions, put them down set out all the hardware and other material and assemble it by memory, He can look at a dinasaur and tell you its name. He has tried to apply for jobs but has poor communication skills with strangers. We are in our 60’s and worry about what will happen to him. We applied for disability but he was just turned down. Isn’t there disability for ADHD?

AnonymousInactiveApril 14, 2011 at 8:55 pmPost count: 14413Hello, I concurred with NewYorkNostaligic. it does sound a lot like an Autism Spectrum Disorder though there is considerable overlap with ADHD particularly of the Inattentive Subtype. Actually, an ASD diagnosis can get him a lot of services so it is important to get it checked out. If it is within ADD, then what success has he had with medications because i don’t see this individual getting by with just a behavioral agenda.
