I have just started taking Adderall IR 40mg a day and it is working quite well for me. However in my research on the drug, I have come across some websites entirely devoted to ” quitting adderall and how to deal with the withdrawl” well, needless to say reading those websites have spooked me a little, I have no intention of not taking Adderall any time soon but I have not come across any information on the effects of taking it long term!

I suppose my question is, should I take a break from it every now and then or should I not worry about it? Has anyone taken a break from it and gone back on it after a week or so?..How did it turn out? Was it rough? Has anyone been taking it for a looooong time if so how is it working for you?

Thank You All for your input!

Many of the psychostimulants can have sudden withdrawal though the long-acting ones, like Adderall XR shouldn’t but that is not always the case. The withdrawal symptoms can be even worse than your pre-morbid state (what you were like before you started the meds) and it is this swinging that leads to the sudden feelings of dread. The best strategy is to add a bit of regular dextro-amphetamine just before the withdrawal and time it so that the active ingredient actually tapers off.
