Okay, my goat’s gotten.

While I will admit to some Wiccan leanings, and to voting for the Natural Law Party the year that Doug Henning ran for Prime Minister (because their main platform was a promise to have 10,000 Yogic flyers levitating over Ottawa, and I wanted to see what would happen if they actually got in and had to do it), I am very much a skeptic when it comes to the power of crystals and auras and such. Mainly because all this mysticism, while perhaps effective in an inspirational sense—which can only be “proven” with anecdotal evidence, which doesn’t count as real evidence—has been completely discredited by actual scientific experiments, with quantifiable, repeatable results.

The danger comes when people believe so firmly in the anecdotal evidence that they’ll abandon proven medical treatments in favour of these “alternatives”, and they’ll convince others to do the same. And people have paid for this with their lives. Around here, we prefer to put our faith in proven medical science, and the wisdom and experience of Dr. Jain, who is one of the foremost medical experts on ADD & ADHD.

As for your claim about autism being caused by vaccines, I must point out that the doctor responsible for the flawed study behind that claim was completely discredited and stripped of his license to practise medicine. The notion that it’s caused by allergies is equally ridiculous—although, a hypersensitivity to milk can produce similar symptoms, and must first be ruled out by a proper medical sensitivity test, and not the discredited blood tests that some quacks are promoting. Furthermore, just a couple of weeks ago, a real scientific study proved that autism is genetic, by identifying several of a wide spectrum of genes responsible for it.

So, thanks for giving us the Doug Henning view of things, but we prefer the Penn & Teller view.

And we don’t believe for a moment that one of the administrators told you to post this stuff here.
