OK, I’m weighing in on this (go ahead Rick, crack one),

Normality must be qualified by the words- functional impairment- which then defines a problem

So it is not normality we seek but functioning and even that is relative. I had a patient who believed he was not functioning because he hadn’t gone to Harvard! Turns out that his entire family were Harvard trained judges, doctors etc. One might arguably say that they were not functioning in THAT family.

Crazy-now that is a cruel word and when loosely applied it makes mental health seem like a bad thing.

Immature- that is another tough word which creates an immediate reaction of childishness as in:

Words can be very painful weapons. However, as Rick suggests, being able to laugh at words takes away their fear. Humor is the ultimate shield.
