Marixdad is actually right…ADHD is the current technical term, while ADD is an antiquated one. Yet in common parlance, some often say ADHD when they mean ADHD hyperactive or combined type, while they say ADD when they mean ADHD inattentive type.
I hope to see the day when people start unifying the language used to talk of the disorder rather than using a hodgepodge of terms that mean one thing to one person and another thing to another. Sure the general idea is the same, but ADHD is the term of the times, and ADD is something sticking around for some reason. Perhaps it’s a desire for those with the inattentive type to be distinct from those with the hyperactive/impulsive or combined type. Nevertheless, the brain chemistry is similar enough for it to all be considered the same disorder, just with different subtypes.
