AnonymousInactiveApril 24, 2011 at 6:59 pmPost count: 14413I have started the assessment process (1 visit down, two more to go, finished about end of June) but I decided to take some more of my husband’s Ritalin since it is helpful.
After a talk with my friend who is a nurse in the USA, she warned me that taking drugs that weren’t prescribed for me might not be a good idea. I asked for more specifics, and she thought that there might be issues coming down from it (yes, it makes the ADHD symptoms seem worse), and also that it might cause a manic reaction. I don’t think I have a manic issue, but I’m not sure.
In the last few days since the first assessment meeting, I have been a lot more emotional, perhaps going through the 25 page questionnaire that I have to return has highlighted problems for me that I never knew I had.
I’m also trying to finish up our family taxes and struggling with that, my nerves feel very shot at the moment although the Ritalin is helping me stay on task, when things go awry right now I am a bit out of control emotionally. I used to be a stressed-out professional accountant so perhaps that’s bringing back memories of that period.
Does anyone have any info on the effects of Ritalin when you stop taking it, or on undiagnosed co-morbidities? I don’t think I have any but it could be that I do, not sure what they might be or how Ritalin would positively or negatively affect them.

Taking your husband’s medication is a problem on two levels: a) he could be accused of diverting the medication to you which is an offense, and b) you could be accused of taking a controlled substance without a prescription which is also an offense. Now, besides the legal problems, you could hurt yourself with undiagnosed cardiac problems.
Soooo. no_dopamine. Play it safe. Then…….
once you have gotten diagnosed and are safe, start by going to the section:

and get the facts.
If I sound a bit excessive, remember, your safety comes first. Doesn’t help to pay your taxes if you are DEAD!

AnonymousInactiveMay 11, 2011 at 3:04 amPost count: 14413Thank you, Dr. J. I have stopped borrowing his meds and am in the middle of the assessment process. By the beginning of July, my doctor should have a full report from an ADHD specialist and I’ll let her play doctor instead of me. I’ll look at the videos too. Thank you for your input.
