I have been taking Ritalin or methyphenidate for 20+ yrs. This recent shortage, which I am so annoyed about, caused my doc to prescribe something else. I was taking Adderall 20mg xr. Well I had not realized 2 weeks into it what was going on. I remember thinking I felt more relaxed. Thankfully the PBS here had another run of the ADD and loving it. I was glued to the set and realized just how out of it I had become. My car looked like three people were living in it, there were large piles of clutter everywhere, I was not getting anything done and I didn’t care either. I wasn’t thinking clearly, I started to self medicate with wine and even had some cigarettes…I thought I was losing my mind. Needless to say I contacted my doc and managed to find some Ritalin SR 20 mg, I take twice a day. I feel like myself again, an amazing difference. Funny thing, my older brother, dx later than me, happened to call, when I shared my recent “mind loss” on Adderral he exclaimed ” I went out of my mind on 2 weeks of Adderral!” I thought that was quite interesting.

Is any one else out there as confused about the shortage as I am…I mean it was really scarry….does anyone have any info? I live in US in Maryland.
