SAFFRON: thank you for your posts! I related to so many of the symptoms you described and it’s such a relief to know I’m not alone in this. it is strange to think fatigue is part of ADD since you are expected to be overly energetic and hyperactive; I can see how those close to me will be ever more confused by this.

I was diagnosed with depression over 5 years ago and have been on some type of antidepressant on and off since. now that my mood’s been fairly stable (on meds) for almost 2 years, low energy level is still my biggest issue. it’s the most frustrating thing to want and have things to do and people to see and not be able to! I am 23 and it’s kind of a ridiculous thing to explain to my friends that I can’t go out because I’m too tired to leave my house or even my bed. :(

I was finally diagnosed with ADD about 2 weeks ago so I am very hopeful.

Adderall is not working so well; got up and took it today, showered and dressed, had many plans, only to crash and nap after lunch. but there are other meds out there, wish me luck!

Fernando and Sylvie–I totally get what you are talking about: I too suffer from debilitating fatigue that comes out of nowhere and interferes with planning my days. With the Ritalin that I just started to boost the effects of the Cymbalta that I’m on for depression I notice a slight difference in my energy patterns (I’m not yet diagnosed but everything in the movie, this site and what I’ve read fits me to a “T”). I get so discouraged sometimes because a lot of people seem to think I’m just making excuses but it is a very physical reality when it happens. I’ve noticed to that, for the first time in my life, it feels like the fog is lifting a bit and that life seems to be clearer. And that’s such a relief I just break down in tears.

Amazing to have a myriad others post precisely what I’ve been dealing with for so very long. I so appreciate this site, the forums and most of all, you all for sharing. Knowing others deal with the same issues is so very helpful. Thank you all so much for sharing yourselves. I begin my med soon and am anxious to share results, reactions, etc.

Saffron, your description of your ADD and fatigue is the best reflection of my own day to day experience I ever found!

I use a journal to help me remember my notes about ADD issues, and follow my adjustments since diagnosis at the beginning of this year. I have written out your whole description of you and your son because it is so concise and to the point about the issues that hit me hardest in spite of my strengths. You, Sari Solden and Adele Diamond have written the things that have made the most insightful and painfully accurate impression upon me, and I also identify with your paradoxical relationship to learning and reading.

I would love to hear how treatment is going for you these days – I know you have done quite well with Concerta…

    Hi,

I suffer from the same side effects and am wanting to write about the link between ADHD and fatigue for a university assessment. I was wondering if anyone would be willing for me to use them as an example of the link?

    Many thanks

    Hi Lily,

I suffer from Hypersomnolence, a close cousin to narcolepsy. I’m seeing a specialist, psychiatrist Dr. Atul Khullar, who told me that 30% of his patients have ADHD. Apparently it is very common to have fatigue as a side effect. You can use me if you like.
