Have any of you taken the strattera without the bad side effects especially the urinary and sexual side effects? I am willing to give up before I start if that is all I have to look forward to:(

The dry mouth is pretty annoying and I am considering buy stock in the Metamucil company. But otherwise I’m fine, maybe mild nausea and very short dizzy spells – just dizzy for a couple of seconds now and then. Today at work (I’m on a field placement) I felt less scattered and was happier than I have been with all I got done.

First-line treatment is stimulants. (e.g., Concerta, Ritalin, Adderall, etc.)

I understand why in theory he would use Strattera because it is non-stlimulant and isn’t a controlled substance.
Would just monitor your ‘improvement’ and the side effects. Strattera is a new drug compared to the stimulants.
As you have probably read stimulants have been around since the 1930’s and have a proven efficacy and safety profile.
If you are not responding then talk with your doctor,

AnonymousInactiveFebruary 14, 2012 at 3:44 amPost count: 14413In the last year and 1/2 I’ve tried Ritalin, Concerta and Adderall. I read somewhere that Strattera might be more effective for some people with Primarily Inattentive ADD. Since I’m in the middle of field placement my dr was reluctant to let me try something new, but I told him I had to do something differently – if I don’t do ok at placement I am sure I’d be out of the program. Anyway, at this point I’m finding I wake up and get moving easier and I’m a little less scattered, maybe more motivated. (Or maybe it’s raw fear.) I wondering about still taking a low dose of Concerta over the next few weeks but since my blood pressure has been kind of high recently that might not be a good idea.

If you read the latest literature on stimulants and cardiac risk it has concluded that in most patients
it presents no significant increase in overall risk. (unless you have some heart defect)
My GP monitors my BP and if it rises with increases in Concerta dose he is going to adjust my anti-hypertensive
medication. It is a risk benefit decision. If my ADD symptoms are better managed then I stay on it.
The ADD specialist just focuses on managing my ADD meds. I have to make sure that I am following up with my GP as well

I was more concerned about being on both Strattera and Concerta at the same time because both can affect BP and I’m 51 years old with a family history of strokes. I’m on 100 mg of Wellbutrin too but I know that’s a really low dose. There’s a huge list of other meds that I’m for something else.

I don’t know if it was because I am hyper sensetive to my body because of the anxiety of starting these meds or not. But I am willing to give them a try.in an effort to gain some control over my inattention.

AnonymousInactiveFebruary 15, 2012 at 12:57 amPost count: 14413I’ve been taking it for almost 4 years now. The only side effect I get is a dry mouth. I find it helps but is not 100% effective but then again none of the medications I’ve tried have been 100% effective. I’m glad there is a non stimulant medication, for I found the side effects of Ritalin to much to handle. I lost 10lbs in the first two weeks of taking it. It totally took my appetite away. Although I couldn’t handle the side effects I found that Ritalin did help the most with my symptoms.

I have little old ladies at work telling me I should get my blood sugar tested because I go through so much water. Have you found anything that helps?
