Hey!
Pretty good I think so far… At first I didnt think it was going to work out only because I wasnt being honest about my feelings. Once I expressed what I was feeling and wanted out of it, its going great! We have established some goals I want to meet, my values. I think what has helped me most about it is that she helps me slow down and think things through. i tend to go too fast even for myself. She keeps my thoughts on track so I can accomplish what I want. I think it will be very interesting now since the kids are in school and thats where I need a lot of help. She helped me determine what I should buy for the kids for school, and helps me stop and think about why I am feeling the way I am about things, what I can do to change them. I have also been reading some ADD self-help/ways to organize books which are great! I read from those and then talk to her about them.
Tomorrow is the start of my second month with her…. The first month was getting to know each other, and me learning about how the coaching works… we would set up a weekly goal… for example my laundry, I would set out to do it, find what worked and didnt. etc etc. This month should be a bit better. Will let ya know!
REPORT ABUSESeptember 25, 2011 at 5:27 am #106307Sadly I wont be talking to my coach anymore. I bought a new car so now my extra cash is going towards that. She was a great coach and I do hope to continue at a later time. I consider her a friend, a highly priced one hahaha But now that I wont be talking to her, I have found other ways to coach myself. I will see how it works out!

some of the basics of BT .. cognative which helps when my ADH brain is quiet. Also Family doctor got me a referral to one of Mental Healths psychs .. we have 2 they come in 1 day a week .. 2 month waiting list or so .. but it helps. also i found a good pharmasist and she is able to help clarifiy what to expect from meds .. and the several i am taking . I have not found coaching on the island but there is a guy in vancouver i think ..no clue if any good.
Paully is there a contact for the Toronto ADH support group ..
REPORT ABUSEOctober 4, 2011 at 2:44 pm #106309Tea here is the link to the ones in Toronto, they are who I use as well http://www.onefocustotalsuccess.com/ you give the 1-800 number a call for a free consultation. Tell them Carrie sent you, Shanna will be happy to hear that and be very excited! They ARE AWESOME! I am still going to continue with them, but half hour sessions now.
I have been to mental health a ton… Im on the other side of BC in the rockies… In the middle of no where and resources are slim. A psychiatrist from Vancouver was the one I waited for 3 months to see here for my diagnosis. hahaha

AnonymousInactiveDecember 5, 2011 at 6:27 pmPost count: 14413it does sound good, but i’m paying in excess of $140. for 3 weeks of straterra, it isnt covered in BC.
Without job, a coach will have to wait a while, BC and Canada seem unwilling to offer support for
ADHD on its own, beyond very occasional psych help . Perhaps someone with, could post what sort
of guidlines a coach offers ?
REPORT ABUSEDecember 15, 2011 at 4:17 pm #106314Lianark – My coach is in Calgary.
Tea – Luckily I finally got benefits at work so they cover my medication costs which were about $300/month. I have meds for ADD and for PMDD. The ADD meds cost A LOT! $170/month. The coaching now costs me $200/month. I have two half hour sessions a month. Its hard to say what sort of guidelines a coach offers… It progresses as the sessions go on… At first it was getting to know one another, kinda all over the place… Now 4 months later we are getting deeper, into behavior. Its been really awesome. And it really does suck that there is no coverage here in BC!!
REPORT ABUSEDecember 15, 2011 at 7:34 pm #106315I have a few dozen coaches.
I found ’em at http://www.totallyadd.com
Some have posted in this very thread.
REPORT ABUSEFebruary 18, 2012 at 8:41 pm #106316>>>Once again, it is the accountibility to what the important goals are, and help to keep focused on those <<<<< That sounds like the key, I can find folks like that who are already in my life, and cost much much less. In fact they are free!!
I especially like the reply billd added just above my post here. Bulls eye dood.
The new anxiety support group I’ve joined is a good place for me to be accountable, I talk to my pain specialist doctor a little bit about it each month. That’s another good place to be held accountable, she has a daughter who has some form of ADHD. And I have friends at church that I talk to about a bunch of the struggles that come along with my “type” of ADHD diagnosis. Just last night I got some really good advice about meditation that I’ve already started practicing this morning before I turned on the computer.
This thread is great!, lot’s of good ideas, good links. And for those that can afford it, there are some coaching options. Your ideas helped me recognize how I already have a few “coaches” so to speak in my life, it’s just a matter of realizing those relationships for what they are. I’m working much harder at being a friend. Being more sincere about learning social skills and listening more than talking.
Mostly I’m going with the way billd is dealing with his. This site is the biggest part of my solution still.
Everything’s coming together pretty well for me on this difficult, never a dull moment path.
