AnonymousInactiveFebruary 12, 2011 at 7:36 pmPost count: 14413I’m 47 years old and just recently diagnosed and prescribed Concerta, which has been hugely beneficial already. I used to live in a state of near-constant frustration and anger and I am much better able to cope moment to moment now. I can’t help but wonder why a few cups of coffee throughout the day (before I was put on Concerta) just made me jittery and wired and generally feel not great but a prescription stimulant calms me and focuses me so well. Anybody?

All I know is that caffeine causes adrenaline to be released which creates stress on the body increasing motivation and focus, stimulating your brain to be alert. But too much stress can also be a paralytic creating a bitter mood. The Concerta probably stimulates your brain without causing stress to create focus. I was on Concerta once, it was formerly used as an antidepressant that didn’t work very well, it didn’t work very well for me as ADHD medication either. Perhaps different forms of ADHD need different forms of stimulation.

Alright, scratch this part of the comment I apologize, I confused Concerta with Stretterra.

She actually preferred me to drink coffee rather than take the medication, so as I could learn cognitive override and not be dependent on medication. The person could also be drinking coffee throughout the day as a ritual habit or addiction to caffeine.

They were all started on Vyvanse and it worked differently for each. I currently have all three of them on 3 different meds. On on Concerta, one on Vyvanse and one on Ritlin. So yes different meds. will benefit different people. Ritlin and Vyvanse have both worked for me in the past. I like them both. I homeschool my kids and if I dont take something to help me we dont get school done. Definitely keep trying til you find the right dose of the right medicine. It is so worth the effort.

What you said about school not getting done–that would be me, if I had kids. Sounds like you have your hands full–glad to hear the meds work for you and yours.
