I am from Slovak Republic. Finally I get diagnose. It was really difficult to get it, because almost all professionals I have met so far were behaving like there are no adult ADHD clients. I am 39 years old now and I managed to get the Concerta from my psychiatrist, bud he is afraid to prescribe it to me because there is policy to use it only for children, but it is working for me.

I have written letter to my health insurance company and the answer was that there are no relevant studies which are proving that these drugs are effective and safe for adults. Is it trough? Are there any scientific studies which are supporting using stimulants for adults? If there are, I will send them to my health insurance company. Do you have any advice for this situation?

As far as I know, AD/HD meds have only been tested on kids. Except for maybe, Wellbutrin, since it’s also used to help stop smoking and for depression.

I would think there are studies to prove it because my psychiatrist said that the belief of Ritalin and dexedrine not working on adults is outdated by about ten years.

Just quickly googled and found an article

    http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder/complete-index.shtml#pub11

    There were several footnote references:

Wilens TE, Biederman J, Spencer TJ. Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder across the lifespan. Annual Review of Medicine, 2002; 53:113-131.

Wilens TE, Haight BR, Horrigan JP, Hudziak JJ, Rosenthal NE, Connor DF, Hampton KD, Richard NE, Modell JG. Bupropion XL in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: a randomized, placebo-controlled study. Biological Psychiatry, 2005 Apr 1; 57(7):793-801.

I’m sure there’s lots more information out there

I recently found this ADHD blog, the doctor is in Oakville, Canada. He has some good articles on different meds. My doc has suggested I look into Biphentin (only in Canada, eh?) and Concerta.
