Someone please show me or share with me what that definition was because according to that definition, I’ve NEVER suffered from depression and been accused by MANY health professionals of having it and I’m tired of defending the fact that I do not have depression. Thank you.

I think my husband has dysthymia, it’s a milder but chronic form of depression, and we think he’s had it since he was a child. One of the features of this depression is that you normally don’t seek help, you don’t even think you have a problem, you just think “this is who you are”. But it’s treatable.
The difference between dysthymia and major depression is the severity and the duration, dysthymia symptoms must have been in place for 2 or more years, major depression for at least 2 weeks, I think, and it includes other symptoms not necessarily found with dysthymia.
There are more variations of depression too. And like anything, there are probably degrees of severity.
Here’s the link for dysthymia http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dysthymia/DS01111

The American National Health site has papers regarding studies on the various drugs, may add to your information.
Good luck, by the way, the Bounce Back if supported by your OHIP offers phone support and coaching for a short time.
We were lucky to have it in B.C., though not well known by doctors .. may be worth checking out. Cheers
