I have just started taking Methylphenidate in 5mg tablets. Since it’s generic, there were varying instructions on how to take it properly, and to clarify I asked my doctor whether I should follow the “30-45 minutes before food” instruction. However, she said she didn’t think it matters, just that the food will slow down absorption. I can’t help but wonder why else they would specifically print to take it that way? Does it really “not matter”?

There is no alteration in absorption. In fact taking it with food reduces nausea, vomiting and gastric irritation.
