I have learned that the best results I get are by taking 108mg in the am. Still not as focused as I would like to be I still get desracted when i drive or try read or come on the computer. but before the concerta I was not able to come on the conputer at all, so should I expect more results or just be happy with what I have now. any help would be greatly aprecated.

AnonymousInactiveFebruary 21, 2011 at 12:29 amPost count: 14413Hey Trashman….. i just was wanting to say remember the meds are not the “be all”…”end all” Trashman……. they are an assist to managing things. A multi-focused approach to your issues is probably the best answer. Soooo….. I would keep that kind of front and center.
Just food for thought…..

The most important thing you need to know it that generic “Concerta”, is NOT the same as real Concerta.
Concerta IS Concerta, because of its unique, patented delivery system, which delivers the medicine in a certain way, over a certain length of time. Generic “Concerta” does not have this delivery system, so it does not deliver the medicine in the same way, which means it will NOT work the same way!
Real Concerta releases its medicine on a special way, so you get a bit of an initial hit, followed by ramping-up over several hours, then tapering-off gradually. Generic “Concerta” just gives you a really big hit, which then gradually tapers off. That really big hit could be why you’re feeling over-medicated, and having such a huge crash-and-burn—especially if you’re taking such a high dose.
Rick explains this difference in detail, here: http://totallyadd.com/generics-part-4
There is such a huge difference between real Concerta and generic, that Health Canada is now carefully studying the matter, and will probably formally declare that generic “Concerta” is NOT a substitute for real Concerta.
Unfortunately, real Concerta costs more than generic, so, like me, you may not be able to afford the real thing. Fortunately, the manufacturer of Concerta has a patient assistance program, which will cover the difference between what your insurance (including government drug benefit plans) covers, and the actual cost of the drug. This assistance plan is FREE.
Just ask your pharmacist about the Concerta patient assistance program. He or she should have the cards behind the counter. The pharmacist just enters the information into the computer, submits it, and in just a couple of minutes, you’ll be approved. After that, you’ll get your Concerta at low-cost or no-cost to you.
To make sure your pharmacist will only give you real Concerta, you must ask your doctor to HAND-WRITE “No Substitutions” on the prescription. It must be hand-written, because pharmacists can (and will) ignore it if it’s printed-on or rubber-stamped.
The special delivery system of real Concerta makes a HUGE difference in the way it works. If you try it, you’ll definitely notice the difference!

AnonymousInactiveFebruary 22, 2011 at 2:52 amPost count: 14413you could try a different med too. Look into what is available. My daughter had troubles taking concerta, It was like it was too stimulating for her or something so I did some reading and decided to ask for her to be put on strattera, It turned out I didn’t have to ask, he suggested it. It is not a stimulant so it works differently and its easier to get. I also take it and find it works great for me.
REPORT ABUSEFebruary 22, 2011 at 5:37 pm #101094Trashman, if you’re in Canada or the USA, the Concerta patient assistance program IS available, from Janssen (the maker of Concerta).
Talk to your pharmacist. If you use a big chain drugstore like Shoppers or Rexall, they will definitely have the info. Even the small independent pharmacy I use has the info.
Also, Janssen has a coupon which gives you a free 30-day supply of Concerta to try. Or, your doctor may have been given trial packages of it that he or she can give to you for free.
If you need real Concerta but can’t afford it, there is help available. All you have to do is ask.
