I have just recently found out that I have Add.

So many things fell into place at that moment and one was how easy it was for me to get addicted to facebook apps etc.

One example amongst many is facebook poker, I had at one point created 48 accounts just to move virtual chips about and then after an hour doing so, going to the biggest table i could find and losing them or winning in less than three hands!

Have any other members noticed similar behaviour or am I just barking up the wrong tree!

    Pest xx

    woof woof…….. ;-)

No, I think you are on the right scent trail.

I’m addicted to forums and email. (I have at least 6 email accounts and over 1 gig of messages I can’t bring myself to delete)

I hate games, so that’s not an issue.

I’ll spend HOURS in forums. I’ll spend hours simply looking things up on the web……….. if I recently watched a TV show staring someone of interest, I’ll go spend 2 or 3 hours googling them and learning about them.

Have you taken the “virtual test” as shown at the top of these forum pages? It’s quite interesting. It’s not a final diagnosis, but wow….. things like that can sure help you learn about yourself, and why you do what you do.

And keep in mind – ADD is more like pain or being wet than being pregnant. For the latter, you are or you are not. For the former, it can be a mild annoyance, or keep you awake at night, or for the wet – you can be a littel damp under the arms, or be soaking wet stepping out of the pool.

You can have ADD “mild” with several symptoms but be able to control or work around many of them, or more like me, on the extreme end, having pretty much all symptoms, maxing out every ADD test I take, and being unable to control the symptoms – and so far, drugs haven’t done much to help – maybe just a little bit.

In any case, if it is indeed ADD, and PROPERLY diagnosed (not by a family doctor with a 5 minute test) you can move forward with various treatment options, aids, counseling, and above all else – learn about you and what makes you tick. For me, that was among the most valuable effects of the formal diagnosis – NOW I KNOW and can move forward!

I think that most people posting on this site would agree with me that receiving a diagnosis of ADD is like finding the Rosetta Stone for their life. While I find that it can explain so many things about my behaviors, I wonder if it is THE explanation for any given behavior or just AN explanation.

    @ billd

I have been seen by my local GP, who boldly stated there was no such thing as ADD! Lucky my wife is a nurse and informed the GP that he would have to follow certain guidelines….

Then I had to see several shrinks and now have funding to go to a specialist hospital in London to assertain my type and treatments.

My wife and I use various tools, calendars/reminders/file systems and chore charts and i am on several sleep and mood drugs.

I am waiting for my final appointments to come through as to my subtype and then i feel i can get on with my life…

Sorry to ramble! I hope some of this makes some kind of sense….

I am addicted to bejeweled on facebook and now I got a free app for it on my phone and I’ll play it till my thumbs hurt on the phone, or my mouse hand aches on the computer.

I’m also addicted to forums like build. I do think these things have to do with ADD symptoms as it’s hyperfocus that gets me stuck doing nothing of importance instead of tasks I should be completing. It’s much more fun to play a game or surf message boards than than clean my house, or organize bills.

Although I don’t do games, I could say:

“It’s much more fun to surf message boards than than clean my house, or organize bills. “

    And mean it.
