Passing on one from a course I”m in. Rather than list, “Visit the Gym three times this week.” because if you only go twice, you think, I blew it, write out “Visit the Gym.” and “Visit the Gym” and “Visit the Gym.” because if you only go twice you check off two things from your list, and have only one thing you didn’t get to.

AnonymousInactiveApril 12, 2012 at 6:27 amPost count: 14413That’s a great tip Rick. I gave myself three hours this morning to sort my wardrobe/clothes situation. I have finished half the wardrobe and hung up all the clothes strewn around the house. Plus I gave away two garbage bags full of stuff to charity using Momlifelove and Dr Js tips – I’m so pleased with myself . Tomorrow I’ll have a crack at the rest of the wardrobe!
REPORT ABUSEApril 12, 2012 at 9:56 pm #113828So many useful tips! I want to try them all!
Right now I’m experimenting with a digital voice recorder. (I gave it to myself as a prize for remembering to empty the dish draining rack all but two days last month – I kept a checklist by the sink!)
The voice recorder has many ADD pitfalls, the primary one being – like all gadgets – “I forgot to bring the voice recorder with me,” but when I do remember to take it along, it really does help. It’s more a memory thing than a focus thing, except that in order to act on the reminders, I have to sit down, play the messages, click to go to the next one, then write them down…and that part really DOES help me focus. I actually completed some paperwork in my “to do” folder for the first time in about a thousand years.

I’m new to A.D.D. diagnosis …so trying to learn all I can about it.
Boy, it answers so many things for me. I am going to try the do chores/get rewards tomorrow!
Thanks for sharing your tips!

AnonymousInactiveApril 18, 2012 at 11:14 amPost count: 14413Have learned a lot from these postings. Will be trying the rewards and lists of 3 very soon.
The only problem is that with my lists I often don’t get past number 2 or even 1. These are small, easily achievable but still important tasks which I need to complete. Also I can’t always account for what distracted me and where my time actually went.
Similar to the rubber gloves, I have found that if I need to study or do office work by putting on my reading glasses I am conditioning myself and actually think, “now its time to work”. Something similar could happen with working out clothes etc maybe
I think our brains, though very far from simple, need certain markers – things spelled out. Almost talk to yourself like a small child and in a very kind way.
REPORT ABUSEMay 7, 2012 at 2:42 am #113833I really get a kick outa the fly lady’s way of talking us through Crisis cleaning. I’ll find the link and come bak. Hopefully someone else has it handy. I saved the mp3, but I’ve got so many new bookmarks it could take an hour just finding it. Oh!. duh!, we can just google “fly lady crisis cleaning” or type in “fly lady crisis cleaning : totallyadd.com in the google thing, and find the link on this site. I was listening to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2utqmVGPCt0&feature=related And this http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Binaural+Beats+(Alpha+%26+Beta)&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 Got my attention, so I came to post the link so other folks can comment about it. I’m supposed to be doing dishes while listening to the nutrition stuff I probably already know. But hope to find new fresher food ideas.
I think maybe I’ve been spending too much time here the last week or so, mebby month or two… I just really really dig this site. And I like to dig around in it looking for brilliant stuff. I bet I’m getting a clue about how the 49ers felt when Gold was first found in 1949 here in Ca.
We’re lucky you guys. Sure life is painful, thurs. I got there early for an appointment for an assessment for more counseling. For ADHD, not SCI. Just looking for a less ignorant social worker, found one too. I cried my eyes out for 5 minutes in my car listening to a song from Van Halen’s 1st album. The song is called “On Fire”. That’s what neuropathic pain feels like. Some spinal cord injuries and MS patients get that kind of pain, aka Central Pain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyqrEiowYko A lilttle more than 6 years ago, I used to wake up in the morning, and BEG GOD FOR A HEART ATTACK. No pain medication helps some days, I have smoked the best of the best California weed, but that only distracted me from the pain… And now I know from experience that smoking pot is gasoline on the “fire” of ADHD… On those mornings I would also cry because I couldn’t stand thinking about how my family would have felt, loosing me after I have survived so much. I haven’t cried about chronic pain for years. But it rears it’s ugly face now n then. I had just found that CD the day before, I hadn’t heard that song for many many years. Talk about a nasty trigger.
I’ve just listened to it again, and no tears, no grief. I can pass any drug test my pain management specialists give me now. They started random drug testing of all their patients in Jan. 2010.
Please don’t let this post make you feel pity, or sadness. You are not guilty of anything, so don’t feel that way for crying out loud!. Give yourself a break and give totallyadd a bread too. To be honest I have no clue why I’m posting all this. Maybe because I think some folks are complaining about the new adds here too much. Advertisement pays for this place we come to for free. Free compassion, love and understanding.
Get freaking grateful folks. That’s all I’m sayen.
done.
