So this site, along with some close friends of mine, and my drowning hopelessly in schoolwork are telling me that is probably time I try and get tested/ a diagnosis for ADD, but I’ve been having some serious trouble getting this ball rolling.

It is probably very ironic that the times I feel I should probably get myself checked out are when I’m swimming through pages and pages of essays, but nevertheless the signs are showing everywhere. Anyway, I finally manned up and went to go see a doctor at my school clinic, which was a huge process in of itself, but I feel like I got nowhere. He pretty much told me to go our Learning Disability Center to get tested, and from there I could see a specialist in the area, (although he also noted the specialist was backlogged until the end of the school year, so I’d probably have to hold on until the start of the next school year). Well, I probably wasn’t paying attention because the Center told me I needed to see a doctor to get tested (my thoughts in the first place). My school has me stumped, and I’m starting to be a weee bit skeptical that they just want me to fail so I can pay for more classes.

So my question remains, how exactly do I get this ball rolling? Should I try and see a family doctor at a walk-in clinic to then give me a referral (if that’s how it works?), or do I just try and phone a specialist in my area? I’m feeling very confused and to be honest I hate calling people, trying to tell them I think I may have ADD, and then end up being tossed around to no benefit of my own. I’m feeling like there should be a procedure for this and I’m completely out of the loop.

    Any advice?

    Thanks a bunch,

    Chris

Sorry for getting back to you so late but the first step is to start connecting to people within your city or with people in these forums to find a doc in your town. Once you have a name, the ball gets going pretty darn fast.

If you can’t find a doc, then educate the one you have and see if they can use the materials that are readily available at http://www.caddra.ca to help make their education come alive.
