I have always been dubbed “oversensitive”; with my feelings, sense of smell and sense of hearing along with the overstimulation I have always felt when in large crowds of people. I am 56 years old, newly diagnosed 2 months ago, have been taking Concerta for the past 6 weeks (am now up to 56mg) and am on long-term disability from my job for a year now. Although the medication has improved my ability to follow through on some things some of the time, I am still a long way from being organized or anything even close to that. My biggest challenge though is the oversensitivity to sound (traffic noise overwhelms me), to smell (strong smells coming in from outside often make me gag and vomit) and overstimulation from crowds of people ( I must take the overcrowded public transit to get to work). All of this overstimulation creates such feelings of anxiety in me that I have to remove myself from all of these situations and hibernate in my home, in the quiet and alone. I was hoping the medication would help with these symptoms but Concerta, so far, just seems to increase those sensitivities. I really need more information and facts about this problem, scientifically and practicality. Any tricks used by others to lessen these symptoms would be much appreciated! THank you.
