I live in Northern Ontario and there are few if any resources up here. At this point the self-esteem has hit rock bottom and I dont see much in the way of hope. Every day is an exercise in trying to find a reason to bother. Are there help lines available with a counsellor experienced with Adult ADD? I’m just about done feeling worthless.

There will always be bad days and there will also always be good days, though for some the balance is precarious.

I’m 65 years old and have often wondered if anything was worth it anymore.

I have no secrets to keeping on but somehow I have. I didn’t know about my ADD until I was 63 and BOY did that explain a lot.

I do have a friend from where I used to work and when we found out we both had ADD, we started meeting for walks or lunch.

We don’t cure each other but give each other ideas and can laugh at ourselves for being late, forgetting something, or going off on a tangent in the conversation and not being able to remember what we started talking about.

It does help to have a friend that knows, not just someone that nods their head when you try to explain.

Do you have meet-up groups there? I found a community on line by finding an ADD meet-up group here. meetup.com

Go there, find your town/city, and search for ADD groups. Don’t know how far north you are but if more than a few in the community, someone else has the challenge too.

I’m totally aware that the internet is not a good substitute for face to face but there is lots of help out there.

Keep in touch and I hope you find what you need to keep plugging away.

I’m an hour north of Toronto (Barrie) and there aren’t any resources here either, but we do have a really good ADHD specialist, I’m in the process of being assessed, waiting for my feedback appointment in mid-June. NOT PATIENTLY WAITING, just waiting IMPATIENTLY.

I find this forum has been helpful, both in tips, techniques, books to read, etc. I found several books that were recommended here to be really key to understanding what’s going on with me and my husband, and how to take steps forward in respect to diagnosis, meds, behavioural change, etc.

So even though we are not face-to-face, i think this forum is a good substitute.

As No_dop has said this is a good place, and there are many many folks out here willing to converse. Sharing is good, understanding is good…..there is so much assistance here no matter your direction….you only have to take the first step and reach out.

Remember our perceptions are our frame of reference…….and it is within that framework that we act and react. So if within my frame of reference I view myself as…..hmmmmm…….worthless maybe…then that will bring forward many negative and persistent emotions. If I may suggest, delving into and fully understanding where these perceptions stem from and why, then there is a possibility one can work at changing (slowly over time) ones distorted frame of of reference, or perception, and the messages or emotions that evolve from that.

This awareness and change process is not a short term venture, it can be life long search, but consider if you will, the alternative??? I found reading, talking with others who are on a similar quest or path most helpful and rewarding. A counselor or guide to assist you would be best…however….. if you are in isolation and a counselor is not appropriate…. there is likely clergy who is trained in this aspect. I am not a religious advocate of any sort, far from it, so do not read anything into that. It’s just that clergy are likely to have some counseling training and will provide you assistance at no charge.

It is not terribly important that they are ADD experts……..the process is the same for people from all walks of life who suffer from the affliction you are describing.

Reaching out is key………..if nothing changes, then, nothing changes.

We have regular meet ups in Toronto. Would it make sense to do one on-line, so anyone could participate? Do you have Skype?
