it would be interesting if this was an ADHD thing. I’m just soooo horrible with this kind of thing. no tootsie roll..electric slide or even macarena for me! I couldn’t even master a swimming stroke because I had to concentrate on every stroke or I would forget what I was doing or which arm I was on. and certainly couldn’t coordinate it properly with breaths. I swim with a doggie paddle breast stroke leg thing.. at least I don’t drown I guess?? lol. can’t do any sport at all. the only reason why I don’t trip over my feet is that over the years, I have trained myself to look down pretty frequently. I will drop items if I forget that I am holding them so I’m pretty careful with everything. I’m still a little skeptical to connect them. seems too convenient. I don’t want to fall into a trap of blaming all my negative traits and deficiencies on ADD. sometimes people are just really uncoordinated and clutzy.

Again if this an ADD thing, I’m the odd man (person) out. Dancing is a dream, and music moves me in the most positive way ( in my head or otherwise), I’m a jingle freak too. Sometimes I do dance steps as I’m walking through the house or just standing around. Rhythm is part of my essence, without movement…..well……I can’t imagine!!! I’m actually more comfortable moving rhythmically than anything, all surfaces are made for drumming on too!!!!! Where I fail is…I can dance…but….I’m toofat to fly….anybody else?????

It’s odd about ADHD – I used to play drums in school – never good like my oldest son, but love drums, and can mimic a rhythm like nuttin’.

HOWEVER, tell me to call a phone number like 456 655-2798 and I’ll ask you 4 times to repeat it while I dial, as I won’t recall even the first 3 or 4.

I constantly have music and rhythms in my head and have music around me whenever possible. So in that sense, I’m a lot like toofat.

(but I can’t dance to save my life and complex dances, like line dancing, totally escapes me)

I drive my wife crazy with the drum cadences on almost every surface of the car on our trips.

I can totally relate. I can’t even add a row of numbers without making a mistake. So damn embarrassing. Can’t even follow a simple conversation. My mind keeps zoning out. Wife is constantly turning off lights, and picking up after me, but she is a great woman. We have been married a long time.

What I don’t understand is if we all have ADD why is it that some of us can remember hand and foot steps and others cannot. I have read numerous times that some ADD people can do karate Tia Chi and dancing. Would like to know if those people who can remember karate and dance steps have been professionally diagnosed has having ADD. And if they have how is it that some can remember and others cannot.

shoe: to me it sounds like an autistic mirror neuron disfunction.

p.s. my doctor that prescribed my MPH and I accidentally came up with a theory when talking about autism & mirror neurons. Since MPH is a brain stimulant, it might improve my aspergers symptoms through stimulation of the mirror neurons.

Some people are more co-ordinated than others???? Different folks have different strengths…..regardless of ADD or anything else. I f you have a look around this site, some struggle where others thrive…..we in many ways are no different than the greater population. Not everything we can or can’t do is a direct or indirect result of ADD.

The fact I play guitar has nothing to do with ADD……….the fact I have trouble understanding the process of counting in with the band does. Those are clear separations within the same activity. Sometimes it’s hard to pick the flyshit out of the pepper, sometime it’s impossible.

HA!!! I’m telling my husband what you said, toofat. We met in a band we were in together. He played (still plays) bass I played keyboards.

Anyway, I was always off by a beat. Even now, when singing in church, or in the car, or anywhere else, I’m late by a beat. This used to drive my husband nuts! Lucky for me, I was pretty cute back then, and had a personality that more than made up for being late on stage. Now I can say it was ADD.

I guess that makes sense, given the executive function issues ADD creates. My concept of time is atrocious in every other area of my life, as well.
