    Hi

I’m looking for help. I hope someone here are point me in the right direction.

I’ve been sure I’ve been ADD for years. I even paid a shrink a pile of cash about a decade ago (I think it was about $2000) . He took my money, met with me 3 times, then proclaimed that you couldn’t diagnose ADD if the patient (me) was already suffering depression.

About a year ago, I finally told my (then) shrink that I though I was ADD. She had me fill out a one page questionnaire then tried me on meds. Next appointment, she asked if there was any improvement – I said yes… So, case closed on ADD, she back to ‘treating’ me for depression & anxiety. A couple of months later, she dropped me as a patient.

I haven’t had ANY adjustments to my meds, nor have I tried anything other than the first one. My son is also very ADD, and it took months to get the dosage right, with regular tweaking as he grew.

My family doctor (I’m lucky enough to have one) is willing to keep writing the same prescription, but doesn’t feel qualified to try to adjust what I’m taking. Nor does he seem to know of anyone to send me to.

Can anyone recommend a specialist, ideally in the Ottawa area? I’m sure my family doctor will right a referral if I can give him a name.

    Thanks in advance.

BTW: First time poster – love the site.

Are you willing to travel outside of Ottawa? Toronto? Barrie? There’s an adult ADHD specialist in Barrie that I’m currently seeing for assessment, he doesn’t take patients but my physician will start treatment once he’s done his job. There is a fee for some of the assessment, some is covered by OHIP.

Not sure if you’ve had any luck, however there is a psychiatrist in Ottawa who is also an MD. As such, his services are covered by OHIP. I can’t recall his name, however I do know he is of asian descent. I hope this helps and if I can end up remembering his name, I’ll repost.
