There seems to be a link to acne and adhd medication, moore so if you had a case of acne before. Getting worse or not been abel to get rid of acne makes me really depressed thinking of the future. How can I help my ADD? I am pretty prone to acne as well. I think I have had a worsening as well and I’m waiting it out right now. It gets worse a week before my period so I’m waiting for that to pass. I already use prescription retin A and birth control. I may consider going back on spironolactone (diuretic which slightly reduces androgens) if I continue to have issues. It you are currently taking stimulant medications, you could try another kind of medication. or see a dermatologist. I definitely understand the struggle. My issue is certainly not as bad as it was in my late teens/early 20s, but still a problem. Maybe I am used to it or just older and more mature, but it doesn’t really affect the quality of my life the way it used to.. but perhaps because it isn’t as bad.

    Hi,

I recently got my diagnosis ADD and are still on no drugs and afraid to try cause of the skin issue. Seems as I also got PCOS so thinking of birtcontrol pills as and/or something anti-androgen as you got. Feel already very bad emotionall from the acne plus the ADD problem that mess with my life, feel stuck now.. What to do ?

Does the birtcontroll and spironolactone work for you?

oh PCOS! that is probably your acne issue, probably not the ADD drugs. I have mostly hormonal acne. my menstrual acne is finally clearing up. birth control, it really depends on the type you get. I can’t give medical advice, so your gyno would be the source for that. (I will say that you may want to avoid the depo shot.because it is a high progesterone preparation). spironolactone is a specialty medication because it is not approved for that purpose. only my derm would give it to me. it is not a first line, but I started getting immune to the antibiotics. and did not want to go accutane unless nothing else truly worked. actually, nevermind, i begged him for accutane and he refused =P then gave me spironolactone. lol. selective memory. for me, treating the hormonal part was key. but I am just one person giving an individual experience =P
