Not diagnosed yet but it fits so well–

I’m 53 and haven’t been diagnosed yet. In fact I only realized this when I saw “totally add and loving it” on PBS (in the wee early hours of the morn of course!).

My question is regarding fatigue: I suffer from other immunological syndromes which induce fatigue of their very own, but can ADHD also have a profound effect on fatigue levels?

Anyone?

Big Time! considering our minds are whiring at heck of a pace, trying to put things together, figure things out, multi tasking the multi tasks. It’s cognitive fatigue, not the same as running a 10k. It was as if my brain continued to whizz even through sleep. Now I’m taking meds I have to say I sleep like a baby at night!

There are many reasons for fatigue and some, as you likely are aware of, is the body’s reaction to environmental allergens and the body’s immune system integrity. While ADHD meds boost up the autonomic nervous system by pushing catechoamines, it may not have an effect on the immune system response. It might do the opposite as well so you really need to consult with your doctor on the viability of this treatment. Having said that, in the hands of your doc, I am sure you can go slowly and find the best fit. I know that fibromyalgia patients or individuals with Chronic Fatigue, actually do find benefits but it really depends on the person and their other underlying conditions.

Yes you may have fatigue issues due to ADHD. However, you may have fatigue with various other reason like when you don’t take enough sleep or you are going through a sever health issue.

All the symptoms seem to fit me really well. From my memories of being a child right up to present. Currently being treated for depression and ? Bipolar. However I’m not convinced about being Bipolar. I feel ADD fits me better. My brother was hyper. I was quiet shy and withdrawn. No one ever seemed to notice me as they were always so busy dealing with him. I have found the parrent’s assessment form online at CADDAC (I think it was). My parrents admitted they are having trouble filling it in. I never gave them trouble…well not much trouble. So they were otherwise occupied. My son has ADHD. He is hard to tolerate at times but his biphentin really makes a difference. I have a hard time keeping a good schedule for him. Keeping firm on the rules. I like to get up and go do something fun for the day. Without much regard for what was planned for the day. Today we went out for dinner and a movie. Anyway…totally off topic. I want to know how I find a Dr knowledgable enough with adult ADD to trust with my assessment. Not that I believe I so amazingly unique. Just that I live in a small town of 800 people. Our Drs aren’t necessarily totally up to date. I have seen a psychologist. He started me on Divalproex (lithium) for ? Bipolar as a 2-3 month trial. I don’t want to self diagnose. I have been reading alot though. My extremes in moods are short lived. Often less then a day. Anyway today is May 13 2012 and I have been off work due to illness since January 20 2012. I became overwhelmed and very depressed. I just want to know so I can get educated, reoriented and back to life. I’m a Nurse….I’m supposed to be helping others.

Queeny, what country are you in? I used a British website that listed specialists in adult ADHD to find someone who could diagnose me properly, then I went back to the NHS for treatment

I’m Canadian. I know there are specialists in Canada but it’s a big country and I would have to fly to the ones I know of. I havn’t been able to find a list of anyone spcalizing in Adult ADD in my area.

See if you have a local chadd organization, phone them, they’ll often give you the names of some specialists, keep in mind that the wait is looooong and the specialists are few.
