I have started taking OMega3, hoping it will give the same results as the meds. I cannot take the meds because I have not been officially diagnosed with ADDand that is because I am 75 years old, and the testing would not be conclusive!! So I’m hoping the Omega3 and some coaching will help me. I found an omega3 that has a ratio of 7:1 EPA/DHA. It is called OmegaBrite. I’ve been on it for about five weeks now, and I don’t really know what to be watching for–my symptoms are worse, if anything . . . and I have gained 10 pounds!! this I do not need! So, I am hoping there is an expert out there who can advise me about the omega2 treatment for ADD. Thanks.

    Bedelia,

I’m no expert but just wanted to pass on the info in a book I read called Untapped Briliance by Jaqueline Sinfield. She’s an ADD coach and advocates Omega 3 supplements. However the dose she recommends is actually based on Dr. Edward M.Hallowell’s recommendation of up to 5 grams (i.e. 5,000 milligrams) per day of toxin-free fish oil for an adult with ADHD.But there is also usual warning of checking with your doctor before starting this as well making sure to eat foods rich in Omega 3, a good diet in general, lots of water, exercise and sleep etc .

You can check out her website http://www.untappedbrilliance.com. She sends out an interesting free newsletter as well.

yes, i agree with taking omega 3 fish oil supplements. make sure to read the front and back labels. if you can find out where the fish oil came from, better. they should be toxins-free. i am on maxalife omega 3 fish oil caps that i got from maxalife.com because their fish oil came from new zealand– where water is really clean. i’m very anal about that so yeah. :D

best of luck to your health!

I am aware of how age might effect getting treatment with meds. I still think, although not an expert, that someone could diagnose you…but then here I am at 66 having to come off meds and finding it impossible to get an appointment with an ADD specialist to see if there is something I can use now that i am on cardiac meds.

as for omega 3, I take wild salmon oil, didnt start for ADD but for nutrition and arthritis. I just keep taking it, cant hurt.

In the last ADD book I read I’m fairly certain there was an 81 year old woman who was put on meds! Did a doctor tell you that you would only be “inconclusive”? Maybe you should find a second opinion. Good luck!

Hi, I take Omega3 Cod Liver Oil – Carlson Norwegian. It’s free of contaminants and tastes great! Well, as good as oil can taste. When I take it regularly, I do feel better, but it’s not a miracle.

Hi bedelia: I’m 54 yrs old and a few months ago I started taking 1 capsule a day of the JAMIESON Omega 3-6-9. My memory has improved considerably and I didn’t gain weight. Good luck!
