im 26 and my main problem is getting the clinical diagnosis i need my GP agrees it is most probably ADHD but there is only 1 ADHD specialist that we know of in england and getting to see him is proving impossible (due to NHS funding). I was being medicated on respiridone that was making me overly tired ( i slept for 2 days) not good when you have a 16 month old daughter to look after then i was put on oxcarbepazine which seemed to be working to an extent but then i found out i was pregnant so the meds were stopped (now 12 weeks pregnant) due to dangers to baby :( i am now unmedicated and struggling with the “temper tantrums” or “mood swings” and my brain working overtime i feel very stuck and very alone. My husband is great and does his best but i still feel iscolated. any help suggestions would be great.

    thanks Vixter XX

Do you need to go to an ADHD specialist to get diagnosed? Could you go to a regular Psychiatrist, or a Psychologist?

I’m in Canada, but I was diagnosed by a Psychologist. Mind you, I had to pay out of pocket for it.

we havent even got a psychiatrist in this area its rediculous and it has to be a specialist who does the diagnosis or a psychatrist but i have access to neither :( and the NHS wont allow me an out of area referral xx

Well, if the problem is with the NHS, what about contacting your MP and/or the Minister of Health?

You can’t be the only person in this boat.

Or perhaps if you went to the media. It’s amazing how quickly an unreasonable situation can change when a human interest story lets everyone know how one unreasonable policy is making a person’s life hell.

vixter_r, did you get anywhere with this? I’m coming home in 7 weeks and didn’ t think it worth getting diagnosed here in Canada, but it looks like I really ought to from what you’re saying! Doesn’t sound too supported back there!
