37 is late in life? Geesh, my doc was right – I’m REALLY over the hill in my 5th decade as he puts it……….

…for diagnosis. Though, with my BMI, 37 may be late in life for me! ;)

Just diagnosed at age 54, although I’ve suspected “something like it” for some time. (just kept putting it off, other things I’d rather do)

Yeah, but if I decide to take medication that means that I won’t be able to space out when my mother-in-law is torturing I mean talking to me. ahhhhhhhh

I’m lucky – my M-I-L ignores us, and absolutely hates my wife- her own daughter, so the chances of seeing her or her being here are slim to none.

I recently posted in one of the other forums about ADD + Aspergers. In my case at least there seems to be a match.

    Here’s another good one… lot’s to read.

A good quote from this thread:

Re I.Q.: I once attended a lecture by ADD Specialist, Dr. Daniel Amen and he said, “Over an I.Q. of 160, EVERYONE has ADD”!

I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD at 31, same time as my 11 year old son was..  not on any medication, yet, but I am really considering it and my therapist recommends I do..

I have also had seasonal affective disorder since the age of 15 or 16.  I didn’t think that I had any other problems like OCD or anxiety or anything, but as my therapist reminded me today, I have been treated in the past for panic attacks.. so maybe I just always have anxiety and don’t know any different?  It feels like normal levels of anxiety to me anyway, I would not describe myself as an anxious person.   So I’m not sure on that one lol.  SAD, definitely

@Marcelyne, have you tried a full-spectrum light box for your SAD?

I have one, and it seems to help not only with the SAD, but with some of my ADHD symptoms.

And it really helps when I have to shift my internal clock to or from Daylight Saving Time.  It even helped me with the 5-hour time shift before & after my trip to England, last year!

    hi Larynxa!

Yeah I have a light box, and have also tried exercise, omega 3, St. Johns wort, all that kind of stuff….  unfortunately I didn’t really find any of those things to work very well for me, I think I get into it too deeply.  This year was the first year I was ever put on a prescription anti-depressant (for the aforementioned panic attacks lol, not even for depression) but it made a HUGE difference, and I am now kind of kicking myself for just trying to tough it out by myself all those other years..

@Marcelyne, you seem to have already started on that homework we just got in the webinar…

I always think it is funny, I have co morbid learning disability, reading , righting, visual spacial and a unreliable memory and major depression. the one  place I am in the 93% of all people is my verbal skills. The funny thing is if you meet me on the street you would never guess I have all these issues and a lower than normal IQ.

I still  try to take part in your forums for your credit is that most of you are very excepting. I have tried many things to help me, like the dragon program which I can not train. this is very fusterating and always struggling and being left behind. I can’t concentrate  or focus on almost nothing and ended up some anger management issues.

Thanks @Trashman, haven’t seen ya for a while. I’m glad yer sticking around.

It’s a very fortunate thing to find something to laugh about. I’ve been reading a book about discipline lately. The truth is that it’s been doing me a lot of good. But it’s a little bit dangerous for me to let myself become too serious. This morning I got my first taste of the depression that can come with “taking myself too seriously”. Fortunately I’ve got this community to come back to.

So of course I’m taking good care of myself about that. It’s simple. I just lighten up.

    Truly simple.

I too look foreword to the social contact here. Maybe because I can relate to so much of what folks talk about here. Even though we’re talking about struggles. The struggles do become smaller. What’s important, and what I look foreword to the most is the solutions I find here. You guys have struggled with all the same things I’ve had trouble with. And found solutions…

    It’s the best stuff!!.

I do my best to share as many of my solutions as I can here. When I’ve got them.

Not everything that works for me will work for the rest of the gang here. But I know folks are sometimes trying what works for me, and having success. The trick is to remember we’re dealing with extremely forgetful, and very absent minded pholks here.

that’s why I don’t understand the missing edit feature… maybe each of us is waiting for someone else to harass Jimi about it? We all like this place so much we don’t want to complain? It’s more likely we like this place n think it’s just plain good enough, huh?. Yep. Mostly.

Real live air heads!… that are also bona a fide genius’. A very strange combination of perplexities indeed. But I like us.

Yep, just a weird weird bunch of blokes.

    Weird.

    A bunch of nuts.

But truly loveable, warm hearted, and funny! best of all. I get a kick in the butt out of lot’s of the funny “characters” in this community. They’ve got character. We go character. I know I shouldn’t pass judgement. But that’s just what human beings do.

I have judged this community, and I’ve found it to be truly inspirational, warm, and absolutely genuine and real. The reality is the best characteristic around here.

Really… um, interesting :-p (Interesting is about the coolest thing there is to be…)

    DGMS

My shadow syndromes are that I’m sometimes just plain ridiculous . lol. It’s a fun way to be though. Like Ace Ventura Pet detective… Sorta… just in my own way, without the pets.
