I’m on the Empowerment Council at CAMH and we told the new CEO that they really should be increasing funding to the adult ADD program. In fact a couple years ago the support group I was in was told (by a member of Dr Jain’s staff) that this was going to happen.

Instead, I’ve just learned that he has to get rid of ALL of his adult patients (including my 20 year old son who was only 7 the first time he was seen at CAMH) so we’re really screwed.

Can anybody recommend a specialist who is taking on new patients? I don’t how words for how sick I am about this (not to mention FURIOUS).

    Thanks.

I’m trying to get the Empowerment Council to tackle this issue but it turns out that I have to go through “regular channels” which means going to the person who handles patient complaints.

If anybody else is interested in kvetching about Dr. J. having to give up all his adult patients, the first contact we have to go through is Joan Lewis.

When that yields no result, then I can push for the E.C. to do their “systemic advocacy” thing.

I’m not local to know first hand what CAMH is but it looks like “The Place” for higher understanding into what makes us tick… I’d be interested in knowing why they’d (by your telling of it anyway) force a Dr. to drop a set of patients. Seems that they’re discriminating against age…That or they are narrow minded enough to think of AD HD as a childhood issue. Either way shame on them.

Before an outcry gets going (and while I appreciate the feedback), keep in mind this is a global site so people in North Korea may not necessary care about some of the issues.

Having said that, the broader problem is access to services and one of the things we can do as a social network is to consider a strategy in getting our collective voices heard. We need a much bigger membership but this is all the incentive we need to get the word out. We are already considering some sort of effort for the future including participation in worldwide conferences.

    Go team!

It’s not that hard to get more traffic to the site. A little SEO here, facebook page and some back linking there… throw in a little time and you got it. Then that will equal more members.

Dr. J, could you please post the information about all the departments at CAMH that have an ADHD connection? My short-term memory being what it is I had forgotten minutes after we left the office last week. I want all the info I can get to strengthen the case I intend to make to the hospital.

I want to be able to say with a straight face that I read the info online. ~wink~

    Thanks.
