Advice: Make lists. (They’re some great strings on this in the forum.)
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:41 pm #114753Thank you for doing this! It’s appreciated by those of us who can’t see it.. A good record of handy tips! Great idea of yours. You’re not wasting your time!
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:41 pm #114754Advice: Reframe it. (The guys insist that ADD is a “type,” not a “disorder.”) They have video of Dr. Hallowell, one of the ADD docs in the gift camp. We have several strings on the forum about this subject.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:42 pm #114755Advice: realistic goals.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:43 pm #114756Advice: Choose your distractions. For example, reading or studying to music can be helpful.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:45 pm #114757Advice: It’s your experiment. See what works for you.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:47 pm #114758Advice: Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses. Focus on the strengths—they help you conquer your weaknesses. Avoid “But…” Sometimes your weaknesses are your strengths.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:48 pm #114759Advice: Turn off the TV. (I’m sure MPT loved that one.)
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 7:51 pm #114760June 9, 2012 at 7:56 pm #114761They’re taking a break to raise money. The program is being re-run tonight; I’ll try to fill in the bits I missed at the beginning. They have a number you can call to get the CD—1-800-222-1292 (probably U.S. and Canada only). It may involve a gift to MPT. I’m sure you’ll also be able to order everything from the Totally ADD website.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 8:01 pm #114762They’re pitching a pre-diagnosis book—a book to help you determine if you have ADD. Anybody who suspects they (or a loved one) has ADD might want to get a copy. Patrick suggests you fill out the questionnaire and take it with you when you see a clinician.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 8:05 pm #114763Advice: Don’t trust feelings of being overwhelmed. Tackle projects in chunks. It’ll take less time than you think.
Advice: Build a team. Work with people who can pick up your slack. Think about hiring a coach.
Patrick needs to get a new pair of trousers—there’s something on his fly!
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 8:10 pm #114764Advice: Keep things together.
Advice: Get real about time. ADDers are REALLY bad at allocating time.
Advice: Express gratitude. Write out things you’re grateful for.
Advice: Create a bigger context. Do something about your ADD for your family and friends. It’s not just about you.
Advice: Don’t overdo the great habits. Try to do too much too fast and you’ll set yourself up for failure. The ADD life is a marathon.
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 8:20 pm #114765They’re taking the final break.
Rick says the biggest takeaway should be that there’s SO much that can be done to fix the ADD problem.
Now he’s plugging the website—and the forum!
REPORT ABUSEJune 9, 2012 at 8:26 pm #114766Patrick is telling the story of an 80-year-old man who came up to him after a show and told him how finally being diagnosed changed his life. He was in tears.
