There’s a couple of phrases that have been repeated to me throughout my life. They scare me more than frustrate or anger me. They’re hurtful in a way most people don’t seem to understand, but here maybe some do.
I need your full, undivided attention.
This scares me most when people I love say it, because I know it’s impossible to give them what they ask, and I don’t want to hurt their feelings.
Don’t get distracted or dilly dally along the way.
Many times I’ve heard this, people may as well as me not breath, clasp my hands over my ears, put blinders on and run at full tilt, screaming incoherently until my destination is reached.
…maybe I should just start doing that…
