I am right, everyone else is wrong
There are 7 billion people on the planet. None of them are living exactly the way I do. They don’t share the exact same beliefs about everything, or the exact same interests. And since I always do what I think is right, that makes them, everyone else wrong. Am I right? Of course I am.
I Am Right, Everyone Else is Wrong
Look, I’m quite clear that what I do, think, believe and enjoy makes perfect sense. It’s all good. I wouldn’t do something stupid or wrong. The speed I drive is the sensible speed. The food I eat is a good balance. The amount of exercise I do is just right, not too much. My beliefs about God and the universe are completely sensible. How hard I work is admirable… I can explain it all if you’ve got a year to listen.
The point is that me knowing better about everything creates a lot of conflict. Because other people seem to think THEY know better! Can you imagine?! Democrats know better. Republicans know better. How can that be? Believers know better. Atheists know better. Ridiculous! They can’t ALL be right! Only I can. But try telling that to everyone else. Not easy. I know, cause I keep trying. Even pointing out what my immediate friends and family are doing wrong can take up all my time. But I feel I have to, because that’s how you show you love people, right?
And they just nod and pretend to agree, or say, “Interesting” and go back to doing and believing what they always did. Rather than switching to what I’ve always done.
And this is just people close to me. Let alone trying to convince people in The Middle East, Asia, and everywhere else that what they are doing is silly, misguided or… if they are doing what I’d do, on the right track.
It’s daunting. I mean, I don’t get to vote in the US elections, but I have a really smart, insightful, logical, opinion on who deserves to be elected and why everyone else is an idiot.
But there seems to be so little time to share my wisdom and allow everyone the opportunity to benefit from my insight.
The result? They have dumb ideas. Unless they agree with mine, in which case, bravo. I applaud your clear-headed thinking.
Alas when I do share my wisdom with people they tell me all their crazy ideas and ill-considered opinions!
Clearly they don’t have all the facts that I do. Or they have too many facts, more than I have, and that’s throwing them off.
And these people, get this, are convinced that the way they live, what they do with their time and money and energy, is the right thing to do!
For example, they don’t own the same car as me. What were they thinking? And they’ll explain why their choice makes sense. Can you imagine the arrogance!?
It’s not just cars. It’s everything!
Why, I swear to you, there are billions of people who DO NOT LOVE MODEL RAILROADING like I do. Wow! My mind boggles! It’s the best hobby in the world!… Can’t people see that?
It’s getting to the point where I may just do what I like and not worry about everyone else. Heart breaking, I agree.
Even though I know that without my input, or meddling as they call it, they are doomed to misery, suffering and disaster.
Of course, if everyone else did that, just minded their own business… that would be wonderful.
There would be a vast calm silence as people just followed their bliss. And then I would have the silence I need to get everyone’s attention, explain to them why their religion, culture, hobbies, habits, diets, favourite TV show and choice of footwear is wrong.
And then I could give them the good news, by explaining what I like and why they like it too.
This probably won’t happen. I’m a realist.
But at least, do me a favour, start Model Railroading. When you see how amazing it is, I’ll share more of my insights with you so you can be perfect, just like me.

LOL! She’s good. She doesn’t believe a word of what I wrote. She thinks I’m just as wrong about stuff as everyone else. Can you imagine! I guess that’s her way of coping.
My dad had a model railroad table in his workshop for about 10 years, when my brother and I were kids. When Dad lost interest in it, my brother made it his own little world, and we spent hours playing with it. The day Dad dismantled the table and sold all but a few pieces of the rolling stock was a hugely traumatic day for my brother.
Today, he has a collection of hundreds of thousands of HO-scale plastic people and buildings, and is now the world’s leading expert on the subject of 1-inch plastic soldiers.
So, I’m not the only weirdo in my family.

As far as model rail-roading goes, I got an n-gauge train engine once, but then ran out of steam (bad pun, I know. LOL!).
WOW!! RICK That sounded just like my late father and then he could not understand why people in the little town that I grew up in didn’t like him. I wish he would have lived long enough to have learnt what ADHD is . it sure explains a lot, so thanks again.

Another reason to take up model railroading: You can do interesting experiments, like finding out how fast you can run the train through a series of switches without derailing it.
I just read in the Star, that the black box from the VIA train that derailed in Burlington revealed that the train was going four times faster than it should have been, as it went through the series of switches in that area.
It boggles the mind that a kid playing with a model railroad knows that you need to reduce your speed when going through a series of switches, but TWO veteran engineers and a trainee don’t!
Wow! You sound just likely mother! Only, she is never right. I always assumed it was because I knew better, but I guess it was you who really knew everything all along. Thanks for enlighting me Rick. I hope you don’t mind me deferring to you for all my decisions from now on. What a relief it is to finally find someone who knows better than I (and isn’t my mother). I think I can truly sit back and enjoy life now.
