So, today, my OT told me she felt that, unless we invested in the iLs program, we’d just be wasting our family’s time at OT. The clinic we go to advised her to stop working with our son unless we sign up for the PRO iLs program. Wtf? So no OT is better than doing what we’re doing now? This is really seeming fishy and very pressured. The wait lists in Seattle for OT are so long – especially after school appointments! I don’t know what to do! :(

I would ask the OT directly if he/she is receiving a commission for referrals to the program.

I took the distance training and purchased the iLs Total Focus system, mainly for my adopted son who has sensory processing disorder (specifically an inefficient vestibular system). We have been using the system at home since late December. I can say that he is improving in his behavior (which needed drastic improvement). Other people have commented, also.

But I really want to tell readers that I have been using the system myself, typically an hour every other day. I’ve been using two programs for older children or adults (my son is using the most basic system for sensory processing). At age 63, my balance has improved dramatically! I can measure it, because before iLs I could do the yoga tree posture only on my left foot. Now I can do it on either foot, for longer periods. I can feel physical changes from the listening sessions, sometimes in my ears, sometimes in my head, sometimes my general energy level before, during, and immediately after a session. This is a powerful program.

By the way, my training made it clear that iLs is an educational tool, not a medical intervention. Medical insurance will not pay for it. But considering that my son and I are both using it, the cost is reasonable. iLs has become part of our regular routine.

    < hysterical laughter>

I used to work selling stuff on the phones, cold calls to sell penny stocks, mutual funds,

mineral investment options, anything up to and including shares in the Brooklyn Bridge.

Then i spent several years on the other side of the line doing financial investigation,

assessing the risks of dealing with a variety of Canadian companies .

I became a tad less trusting. Truth be known, I even questioned our elected members’ motives

and sometimes even that of our beloved media.

So, having said that, by way of clearing the polluted air.

I have no faith what so ever in the one time possers who sign in to this site,

make a glowing referral about a previously unmenttioned product or service.

Similarly, I dislike the posers we get here from month to month who come on one time or two

and laud the wonders of some unknown healer who can fix us up just dandy like.

I don’t mind the con. Snake oil has been sold by politicians and ‘specialists’ since before

there were snake presses to get the snake oil.

I just resent that there are trolls out there who think that we are so foolish as to believe their

unfounded, undocumented, untested, unmitigated trash . Damn none sense is insulting .

I’ve reported the post to Jimi, for further review.

Even without a direct link to a website selling the very expensive, and highly questionable ILS system, it looks very suspicious.

Especially when the poster has just joined, and immediately made just one post: that testimonial, in praise of ILS.

It’s this simple any invention or medication that would cure or alleviate ADD – Autism & Dislexia would be splashed across the front page of every news paper in the world………PERIOD!!!!!!! I you don’t see that world wide announcement……it’s snake oil!!!

I have loathing for anybody who preys off of the misery of others……..that goes for extreme profiteers as well. What the world could use significantly more of is persona such has “Jonas Saulk”.

HI Toofat, hope all is well in middle canada.

You have an excellent point, so many of the ads and ‘come ons’

are only marginally more subtle and honest than the hucksters in circus midways.

Best option on west coast, i think, is Gabor Mate … his books like those of Doctor Barkley

have both experience and observed research and they provide clues for this adhd stuff.

Both doctors have web sites and email and seem interested in informing more than billing.

The rest remind me of the various stripes of politicians we have sucking up our resources for themselves >> scumm

I have been getting some deep massage work and realised, slowly, that with slow breathing there comes a

point when the body seems to od on the dopamine stuff … a lovely feeling .. it helps take the edges off for a bit.

And for what it’s worth, I am having a sale on ‘pet rocks’ for those who didnt get their own the first time around.

Shares in Lions Gate Bridge to first 11 buyers. Maybe humor is the only defence . :)

Yes, I just joined. I did so for the purpose of sharing my experience with iLs. That is the initial question at the top of this forum. Maybe some people are interested in my experience. It appears that others are not.

I am just a mother, also special education teacher, who needed to try something that had a hope of helping my adopted son with a vestibular disorder (confirmed by an OT evaluation). This looks similar to ADD, but is not. Medication is not the answer for him. Working directly with his vestibular system and cochlea (which share fluids, by the way) has possibilities for helping him. Upon recommendation by the iLs company, I am using the system myself (no diagnosis in me, by the way — I function well).

I thought some people might be interested in what I feel using the system myself. I am not affiliated with the iLs company. I simply took their distance training, purchased the equipment, and am using it regularly. My training was so thorough that 10 minutes after the UPS delivery, I was using it on my son.

If my post was questionable, so be it. Maybe some viewers are interested.

Dr. Ned Hallowell is a trusted source. He is recognized as a leading authority, educator and advocate for he treatment of ADD/ADHD and other learning disabilities. If you know his personal story it lends even more credibility to his recommendations.

I can’t comment on the Integrated Listening Systems. However I do have personal experience as a patient at his clinic.

He has a team of clinicians, therapists and other support staff who use the best standards of practice and

are have adopted treatments based on clinical experience.

The Integrated Listening Systems like any system is new and it will have its supporters and critics. Cost is always an

issue and it will take time for new treatments to be accepted and adopted in the mainstream.

As with all treatment some patients I am sure respond better than others. If the treatment works I would take a look at it (do some research and compare the options)

Usually the early adopters of technology are family or patients who have exhausted other treatments, or seek alternatives to medication. Also they have to have the resources to purchase/rent/lease the system.

@Joyce63, several things about your postings still appear questionable.

If, as you say, you got ILS to deal with your son’s medical condition that is *NOT* ADD/ADHD, why would you join this forum which is for people who *DO* have ADD/ADHD, purely to post your testimonials about how well ILS worked for you and your son?

And why would you use the ILS system on yourself, purely on the recommendation of the ILS company, even though you’ve never been diagnosed with anything that would warrant using it?

Furthermore, if, as you claim, you “took their distance training, purchased the equipment, and use it regularly”, then you clearly *do* have some affiliation with the company, and perhaps even have a “referral fee” arrangement.

And why say, “10 minutes after the UPS delivery”? Most people would just say, “10 minutes after it arrived”. Something just seems odd about your wording.

If ILS can be proven effective in extensive, independent, clinical, double-blind, scientific testing, it will be welcomed with open arms! Unfortunately, the only “proof” that it works has thus far been purely anecdotal. That is, people try it, then share stories of their personal experiences. But anecdotal evidence isn’t reliable, because it’s purely subjective. There’s no criteria other than, “I believe it worked for me”.

If you and your son aren’t living with ADD/ADHD, then it really seems strange that you would post here.

Larynxa, I have never had such a negative response to things like how I worded “10 minutes after…”

But as to why I am here today, before I enrolled in the iLs training program, I did some internet research and found this forum. I read the posts from here, along with other information, and decided to try the system. I was at my wits end with my son’s behavior, even though he was responding to OT activities in motor skill improvement. His OT supported using the iLs system with him (before I purchased it). She has no affiliation with the iLs company (not even as a customer). She does not use it in her clinic, but she is aware of it. She did not even suggest it. I initiated the conversation in which I asked about it.

I thought an internet search that showed the question at the top of this forum, “Does anyone have any experience with Integrated Listening Systems?” might bring other viewers who might want to know my direct experience. What do you have against my sharing my own direct experience?

As for why I am using the system myself, I learned in my training that different hz sound frequencies affect different parts of our sensory/cognitive functions. I am now working in the 3000 hz frequency area, which targets mental energy, enthusiasm, and motivation (among other things). My son is working under 750 hz, which targets balance, rhythm, coordination, muscle tone, body awareness, laterality, and sense of direction. My distance training included a conference call, and we were told that is appropriate to use the system ourselves. I can use improved mental energy, enthusiasm, and motivation. I can’t measure these qualities. It happened that my balance improved also. I can measure that.

My only “affiliation” with the company could be classified as “customer.” No, I do not have any “referral fee” arrangement, nor have I been offered any.

You say, “Give it 10 years or so to prove itself.” All I can say is that my son is 6, and he was heading toward full blown “opposition defiant disorder.” He is also quite large for his age, and getting stronger. I can not wait until he is 16 to try something that might work, and very likely will do no harm. I read some case studies that reported changes in similar children. The iLs system specifically stimulates the vagus nerve, which carries 75% of our parasympathetic activity (which is calming). Anecdotal reports were enough for me to give it a try. My son is still not a model child, by any means. We have a long way to go. But his extreme “fight or flight” reflexes have become considerably less intense.

Does anyone besides Larynxa have a problem with my posting here?

    Hi Joyce,

Your posting didn’t bother me – I felt that you were just genuinely trying to share your experience with ILS – which related to the original question asked. It looks like only a few people who posted had actually tried the system.

We do sometimes get marketers who spam up our threads with a sales pitch – this is where the frustrated reactions are coming from. If you are trying to convince people to try ILS, rather than just sharing your experience, you probably will hear some pretty argumentative responses from the group.

If you check the “About” section of the site, it was “Created for adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD) and those affected by it (family, employers, health professionals, etc.)” And this forum is for non-expert sharing of experiences, successes, strategies, etc. If you fit into that category, then welcome!
