AnonymousInactiveSeptember 5, 2011 at 8:28 amPost count: 14413i hate posting on my mobile. i meant that i sleep in 15min intervals withOUT sleep meds. i tend to skip words which change the meaning and cant really notice it on the mobile. i think i would die if that was how i slept even with sleep meds!
anyhow no dopamine im super interested in your results. i think my pattern has some similarities to yours. the not being able/unwilling to go to bed at reasonable hours then feeling groggy to the point of useless upon wakening. sometimes im afraid to drive to work in the morning. from what you’ve posted your issue is probably more severe than mine as my sleep is usually adequate if i take my sleepy meds and i sleep better if i go to bed after 2 am. but is really frustrated. so go get some answers. sleeping like crap every night seriously decreases quality of life. anyhow my night time alarm rang a few minutes ago and its about 1:30am. time to wind down and get moving!
REPORT ABUSESeptember 6, 2011 at 2:22 am #107762thanks sugar! good luck, guys, keep us posted.
REPORT ABUSESeptember 6, 2011 at 5:56 pm #107763Even if I do get 7-8 hours, they are not quality sleep hours. I go into REM pretty quickly and never achieve deeper or refreshing sleep. Even during the sleep study, I slept 8 hours, then took naps when they told me to, and didn’t feel perky and great., and started dreaming only minutes into the nap (from what I read, NOT normal)
So they prescribed nuvigil to keep me wakeful during the day and said “get more sleep”. Good luck with that as even if I “go to bed” earlier, I don’t fall right to sleep. I have to ltierally wear myself out or do something really boring or watch TV, then I feel like sleeping and by that time there’s only 5 or 6 hours left to sleep.
So the person checking into my ADHD said because the sleep doc prescribed or put me on nuvigil, she’d not do anything for the ADHD – “see how the other works out”. Well after 7 days they took me off of the nuvigil because of headaches, feeling light-headed and the fact after 3 days, on the 4th, I was yawning and falling asleep again during the day and at work and not able to stay awake for classes.
However, “the damage has been done” and the folks who saw me for ADHD now won’t do anything more until another appointment with another specialist – this time a “PHD” (so who was the other person, some hack or quack??? Why were they not good enough? They WERE going to give me something, but said because the sleep doc trumped them, they weren’t going to – I said the sleep doc took me OFF the nuvigil, but still now they won’t make a move….. I’m so PI#$@%^ and now getting depressed over the whole bloody complex mess. The nurse today said “well we want to make sure it’s not anxiety or something else” and I wanted to respond “54 years of anxiety? or “listen lady, I wasn’t feeling anxiety until YOU folks started messing up with me!”
And you never again get to talk directly to someone, you have to go through a nurse until your next appointment – which is 2 or 3 months down the road and until then – NOTHING is being done at all by anyone.

AnonymousInactiveSeptember 7, 2011 at 2:31 amPost count: 14413billd, I’m sorry you have to go through that. sounds like everyone is passing the buck. I don’t get how we end up with serious sleep issues which then take months and months to diagnose and treat (if we don’t give up or die first). Having to deal with three docs (sleep, ADD, family) makes it far worse. I am not looking forward to trying to navigate the next few months. My consultation is this Thursday, and I think I am going to be pretty blunt about how the ADD meds helped 100%. Might as well, since nobody else will figure it out.

AnonymousInactiveSeptember 7, 2011 at 6:09 amPost count: 14413Hey Powcat, thanks for the “good mom” comment. When I try to step outside of myself like that, I give myself better advice. I can help a friend organize some project or encourage them to take it easy on their self criticism or sort through the best way to approach something they must do, but have so much trouble picking a direction for myself. When I think (rarely do I remember) to ask what I would tell someone else if they were me, it helps me come up with a better answer. I think I will try to remember it as the “good mom” advice, grin. Thank you.
REPORT ABUSESeptember 8, 2011 at 6:30 pm #107767In answer to the original question by the OP:
>>What truly inane activities do you waste time on?<<
1. Asking questions in forums when I know they will never be answered as everyone else in the forum has the same questions and experts never reply…….
2. Looking for answers when:
A. No one has any
B. They do but want a lot of money for them
C. Do but are too busy to reply
3. Looking for truth and justice in an apathetic, forgetful world that soon loses rage over things because the news has moved on to something different and more exciting.
4. Thinking Americans might eventually return to their roots and look beyond the ends of their own noses………
Looks like I waste a whole lot of time!

REPORT ABUSEthe world can be a beautiful place. just sometimes have to search for it.
September 8, 2011 at 10:31 pm #107769Yeah, but that meandering all over the internet, or when I go out for a walk, often leads me to some really interesting finds. In fact, people are often so amazed at what I’ve found and just how I found it, that many of them call me “Sherlock”.
Now, if only I could capitalize on that by becoming a well-paid, professional researcher…but I tend to lose interest when something I find “fun” becomes an actual job.
