Dogs are great, aren’t they? I have three dogs and three cats and they get me through life.

My daughter and son-in-law live in Boston. I suggested they use their cats to keep them warm but Alex said they weren’t cutting it. They needed fluffier cats.

Congrats for getting all that done! We can do anything once we put our minds to it. Most people would have just curled up into a little ball until it was all over.

@seabassd, you only have to zone out in the grocery store line when you are in line. Once you get to the counter, you’re not waiting, you’re doing. In line you only have to move up when the line moves. Just break it down between the waiting part and the doing part.

It’s always been complete torture for me to wait in line, in a waiting room, for the person I’m with to stop chatting to the cashier at the store, etc. Now I’ve finally realized why God made smart phones. I’ve loaded my phone down with silly little games and I can keep myself entertained for as long as it takes. 🙂

Ha, ha. Ok, Rick. Let me know who that goes.

sar316, just do your best and don’t worry about what “they” think. It’s doubtful that many think of you as “that person”. Those who do are going from their own ignorance.  From our point of view they are the ones with the unfair advantage. The exams are set up for them and the accommodations you receive only evens out the playing field a bit. If they don’t understand now, they will once they see what you can really do.

As for coping with being overwhelmed… I have a hard time deciding which one of the two dozen things that have to be done first, to do first. On a good day, I wake up knowing what to do first but by the time I get to the kitchen for a cup of coffee, I’ve thought of a bunch of stuff I really should do before I do that first thing. If I can remember to stop and calm my mind, I can sort it out. On a really bad day I walk in circles trying to do something, anything, and accomplishing nothing. That’s when I have to remember that if I’m accomplishing nothing, I might as well accomplish nothing by doing something I feel like doing. It usually giving in to one of my guilty pleasures like video games, taking a nap or working on a completely unnecessary hobby.   If I’m working against the clock, I set a timer on my phone for 30 min to an hour. I give myself permission to not worry about it for that time. That seems to slow down my spinning brain.

One thing I have learned is that worrying about being overwhelmed makes me feel even more overwhelmed. Use the tools and learn the tricks and techniques that are available to us. If something doesn’t work for you, try something else. Just don’t spend all your time and energy worrying.

And cheer up! Life as an ADDer can be pretty cool if you let it be. Your brain isn’t broken, it just works differently. Being different is cool. It means you’re not ordinary.

So, today is a better day and yesterday wasn’t. After working myself into a tizzy, I came to this forum and was reminded that bad days will happen no matter how well managed we are and to not listen to “that voice”.  Thanks, Rick. The dogs and cats were fed and meds given. Nothing would explode if I didn’t get it done so I let myself take the rest of the day off. Today I feel much better.

Rick, I love this website and I’ve been around but haven’t been writing much. I’ve been suffering from such a bad case of writers block, everytime I try to write something I come up with a great big blank. I’m writing this today so maybe it’s getting better. If the block continues to lift you’ll see a lot more of me.

Now I have to call the Dr’s office and untangle the conversation I had yesterday, jump in the shower then back to the salt mines.
