Pay Attention in Class
I always did well in subjects where the teacher was passionate about their subject and presented it in a way that emphasized the story, the mystery, the magic.
My favourite professor at university taught Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. A really difficult and counter-intuitive subject. “Forget everything you know about physics. The rules no longer apply.”
I did far better in that course than subjects where the prof was a bored graduate student reading from their notes. Did you have the same experience? A teacher who made the subject come alive? Added humour? Was clearly in love with the topic?
