Totally ADD is dedicated to helping adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD) and those affected by it, (family, employers, health professionals, etc.) liberate themselves from fear, shame, and stigma and create a life they love. Our mission is personal—we are a team of people with ADD or affected by it.

An extension of the myth busting and real-life stories presented in our documentary ADD & Loving It?!, supports our mission by offering a healthy dose of education, humour, and social interaction. The information you will find here is reliable, current, and presented in a memorable and fun way. We cover topics such as: symptoms, steps for getting a proper diagnosis, associated conditions, treatment approaches, when and how medication is used, and tips for managing everyday life.

There are hours and hours of relevant videos available: delve into specific topics with Ask an Expert, get a chuckle from the antics in Bill’s ADDventures, follow along with Rick’s random musings about all parts of life with ADHD in Rick’s Rants, learn from a variety of ADHD experts and ADDers about what works and what doesn’t in Straight Answers.

Our Live+ Webinars delve into specific topics of interest to the ADD/ADHD community. Community members also have access to private groups and conversations in Totally ADD Connect and our Forums.

We invite you to join our global, interactive community for adults with, or affected by, ADHD and ADD. Educate yourself! Learning what ADD is, what it is not, and what your particular flavour of it is, can make all the difference. Find the tools that work for you. Experiment! If something works – great. If not, drop it.

Totally ADD is a division of Big Brain Productions Inc., a privately-owned company based in Ontario, Canada.  Both ADD & Loving It?! and were initially created with funding from the Canadian Television Fund (CTF) and Ontario Tax Credits. (We tell you this because so many people ask if pharmaceutical companies paid for any of this and the answer is absolutely not.)

In 2008, the Global Television network in Canada gave Rick and Ava Green the green light to begin shooting a documentary. Rick gave it the working title Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Adults: Symptoms, Diagnosis and…”Oh Look – Cows!“   Global TV recommended a shorter title and ADD & Loving It?! was eventually born.

As Rick and Ava began shooting interviews for the documentary, some things became painfully obvious.  First was the amount of misinformation and fear that surrounds ADHD—no one could believe that we were looking for facts and not controversy.  Second was the lack of help for anyone seeking a diagnosis. There’s a shortage of doctors trained to diagnose and treat ADHD and it’s a worldwide problem.

ADD & Loving It?!  turned out to be an inventive and often hilarious look at adult ADHD. This was not too surprising, since it featured actor/comedian Patrick McKenna (and his wonderful wife, Janis), who worked together with Rick on the long-running Canadian television comedy series, The Red Green Show.  Both Rick and Patrick have been diagnosed with ADHD–Rick several years ago, and Patrick during the making of the documentary.
For his work as the film’s creator, writer and director, Rick was honoured with the prestigious Celebrity Transforming Lives Award from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation.

Despite the documentary’s success, it quickly became evident that releasing ADD & Loving It?! wasn’t enough.  A companion website, was founded and launched in 2009 by Rick’s company, Big Brain Productions Inc. to provide an ongoing resource and community for adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD), their families, employers and caregivers.

We also launched to provide a resource for a wide range of informational books and videos. Of course, there’s stuff that’s just for fun there, too (Rock Star AD/HD tee-shirt, anyone?).

The popularity of ADD & Loving It?! our follow-up ADD & Mastering It!, and the website have led to a ton of speaking requests, which inspired us to create a range of workshops and presentations to help people develop a greater understanding of ADHD.

Our first workshop was held at the Ontario Science Centre in February 2010 and resulted in a sold-out auditorium of almost 500 people and a standing ovation. Not bad for our first run! Since then, Rick Green and Patrick McKenna have appeared in person together and separately all over North America, leading workshops and presenting keynote speeches to groups including:  ADDA, CHADD, CADDRA, CADDAC, ACO, The Ontario Psychiatric Association, Learning Disabilities Associations, Literacy Groups, parent groups, school boards, students and the Tourette Syndrome Foundation.
