Hey, Clive, it sounds like you’re already seeing an improvement!

You caught yourself looking out the window, and dragged yourself back. That’s way better than needing someone else to catch you and jerk you back to reality!

Yes i am seeing an improvement .

You know some thing are really intresting , just to start i am keeping the kitchen sink clean and clear , may sound a small thing but its nice to get up in the morning and see no plates ,pots and pans where they should not be .

The main thing about that is the fact that i am not cutting my self up for wanting to do them but just not getting to it..

Example i have been meaning to clean out the fridge , every time i opened the door it just pissed me off but i did do anything about it .

Sunday i said to my wife i am going to clean out the fridge, she weht off on a erund and i was going to tackle the fridge from hell .

I removed the food from the fridge and turned it off , at this time i would have had break , check the football score and golf standing .

But i did not i stuck with it and focused on the task at hand .

Wow it was all nice and sparkly clean and before she got home .

The main problem i am having is longest list in the world that is in my brain , the list that i need to go back to the very begining and complete every little thing that stared and did not finish to the best of my abilities .

That is a long long depressing list.

    Any ideas anybody

here’s an idea – forget the list! I know, easier said than done, but getting bogged down in all the things we didn’t do yesterday or last week can really get in the way of getting through TODAY

I know there are all kinds of books out there on organization and time management and all of those types of things – but those of us with ADD are playing with a different deck as it were so those strategies don’t necessarily work for us – it’s interesting that you mention the clean sink cuz I read that one on Flylady!

see if you can find away to give yourself permission to start a FRESH list and break things down into today, this week, this month or whatever…

    good luck!

well i am getting there , its funny though i am seeing a difference with my higher dosage .

It is just the way i get overwhelmed some times , it is just a wave comes over me and i am in the dumper .

Just got to keep to the list .

As we all know life gets in the way sometimes .

It is very important to pick a task each day. Just one. Focus your energy on it and reward yourself at its completion. Try to do it in the morning and then the rest of the day will feel like a path of joy. Sometimes lists can get overwhelming particularly when you keep moving items from last days list to today’s and it never gets done but just reminds you of your troubles with ADHd.

Well thats the thing , i have a lot off things on my plate , it is tough enough to launch a new product , and sort out the manufacturing all on your own .

i think money is the big thing , new web site , buying parts .

One thing at a time is not going to work , and i get over welmed , do not get me wrong since i started on Biphentin 20mg it is a lot better .

Not in the fetal position in the corner .lol

    Any suggestion on organization .

That’s just the problem: everything seems to have the same level of importance. Take the most important task that you need to accomplish. Just ONE. Make it your mission. Do it. One at a time. If the others don’t get done, so what! What you will notice is that the completion of just one thing makes the momentum for the others and it is like flood gates opening. If you make your top priority list too long, the whole thing collapses.

The “finally being able to do something about the dishes in the sink, and the clutter on the floor” was the awakening that came to me when I first started on Concerta. So was the lovely feeling of calm and focus. I could sit still for ages, without having to bounce a leg.

But then, after the first couple of weeks, these good things faded away. We tried increasing the dosage, and I just got wired and anxious. We tried changing the dosage time. We tried augmenting with Ritalin in the morning, and then we tried doing this in the afternoon instead. No luck. Lately, things are worse, because I’m not sleeping properly due to the noise and bright lights from the condo tower going in across the tiny street from me, and because my annual bout with SAD seems to be kicking in.

My GP will adjust dosages and timings, but does not feel comfortable changing the medication itself. I have to consult my psychiatrist for that. But he is so busy that he can only see me for 15 minutes, every 4 months. When I asked to see him sooner, the best he could do was every 2.5 months. This bothered me for a while, and I thought about maybe doing something about it.

But I am now convinced that, when you’re newly diagnosed and trying to find the right meds, this is an unacceptably long wait between appointments that are far too short, so I must fire my psychiatrist and get a new one.

My GP is willing to refer me to a different psychiatrist, but I need to do the research myself, to find one. I cannot afford to pay anything above what OHIP covers, so the existing specialists in adult ADHD are out of the question. Therefore, I need to find a new, recently-graduated psychiatrist (with the most recent information on ADHD)—but the College of Physicians & Surgeons’ website no longer provides doctors’ graduation years, nor identifies which doctors are taking new patients.

    This is extremely frustrating!

I think the frustration is often the timing of the behavioral and the medical agendas. I find that it is very important to establish a clear outcome that suggests that the meds are working. It’s not that the meds making the agenda, it is you but the meds make it happen because they should take the voice that says, “no, I’ll do it later” out of the picture. You could be having a dose related problem but, as I suggested, focus on just one behavior you want to change and pick the one that moves your life forward.

Yes , I am finally getting that way of thinking .

Its just whole list thing is the issue , but i am getting through it .

As you discussed earlier one thing at a time , and i am getting some better sleep which always helps.

Actually discussed this on the phone with my Mum in England , and it all kinda makes sense to her .

Thanks for a great web site , its great to get feedback from everybody .

    Cheers

I phoned the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario, explained my situation, and asked if they could identify which psychiatrists were new grads, and accepting new patients. The woman I spoke to said that they absolutely could not, and would not, do this—even if my doctor were to request this information himself.

All I can do is go through the list of OVER 850 psychiatrists listed on the site, and check the certification dates of each—information that is listed, but you have to open each individual record to find it. A mammoth task for sure, and one that would take me at least a full day of hyperfocus to accomplish.

My next option is to call CAMH and see if they can suggest anything.

The problem is getting more pressing, as I have some upcoming gigs, and I’m doing some of them with a person whose ADHD (undiagnosed) makes even my mom’s look like a mere blip. This makes it imperative that I control my own symptoms enough to make (and stick to) solid plans to keep myself on track, and contingency plans for any problems that may/will arise. Fortunately, I have “ADD and Loving It” on DVD, to help me with this. But, as you can imagine, I’m feeling rather frazzled!

Larynxa I guarantee CAMH won’t help you – they are forcing Dr. Jain to give up all his adult patients – they don’t g.a.r.a. about us at all.

The College website does have a section to find a doctor who is taking new patients; the problem being that Dr. J. is the only one in Toronto with expertise in ADULT ADHD since the death of Dr. Turgay.

You can screen by hospital at least.

What kind of gigs are you talking about?
