This is a question for Dr. J
Nine months ago I started with Ritalin 20 mg three times a day. I could feel it wearing off at work so we changed to 20mg SR three times a day so that I could have concentration all through the day. (I take the generic form) For the last three months I feel I don’t have the ability to focus like I did when I took the Ritalin 20 mg three times a day, also the generic form. I find it harder to keep my attention when I am studying and it’s not good. Can you offer advice on this matter? I also take 150 mg Bupropion HCL XL.
Thanking you in advance

REPORT ABUSEI’m glad to see that someone else is looking for a support group in St. Catharines. I found out nine months ago that I have ADHD. I just recently moved to St. Catharines. I could really use some support.
I have a lot of questions about meds.
REPORT ABUSENow that I have been on 20mg of Ritalin three times a day (generic) I think it’s going to be O.K.. I need to learn to relax a little and not want everything RIGHT AWAY. This is all very new for me and I get so worked up that I drive everyone crazy. I am looking into a second opinion and I wanted that to happen “yesterday” as well. I have to tell myself all the time to slow down.
REPORT ABUSEThank you Larynxa for your reply. My doctor said that I have a strong trauma history with underlying issues of loss, pain ect. She said “it’s good that you are feeling your feelings'”. She wants to to go to a trauma program that meets weekly for two months.
It upsets me that I have to go through this, the therapy starts in July.

REPORT ABUSEHere is my problem: I have been on Ritalin for six weeks. The doctor had me stop taking Amitriptyline (25mg 4 times a day). Also I take only 100mg of Bupropion now instead of 150mg every morning. Sure, I can sit still now and read, do the the wonderword in record time and I do feel somewhat more calm, until the Ritalin wears off. I am sad, I am isolating and crying often. The few people that I have talked to that know me can see the difference. I was happy go lucky before and now I feel alone and sad. I don’t have the positive outlook I had. I have to “fake it in front of people”. I don’t want to pretend anymore.
Does anyone feel this way too?
REPORT ABUSECarpool
Does anyone do any carpooling to these events? I live in Guelph and I do not drive but I would pay for gas if I anyone was interested.
REPORT ABUSEI am taking a generic form of Ritalin, should I spend a little more money on the real thing? I am not too crazy about how it is working.
REPORT ABUSEI started taking Ritalin (20 mg) three times a day three weeks ago and I have seen very little change except I can now focus on reading. I used to take meds for anxiety but the doctor took me off of them. I don’t feel good about that. How long should I wait before I can ask to try something else?
REPORT ABUSEI live in Guelph, I like to work out, love the outdoors and I laugh a lot. I have a job that is suited to my wild and crazy personality and I would like to go bowling sometime.
REPORT ABUSEI too am learning that I have always had ADD and now I have started medication, it has helped but there is so much info that the speed of my mind that usually goes 100 miles per hr, is now at 200 miles per hr. The medication has allowed me to focus enough to read and retain the information. I am halfway through “Delivered from Distraction” and I bought the book called “Scattered Minds” to read (my therapist told me to read it in 2007) when I finish the one I’m on now. I could never finish a book in my life before.
