    Hi, grzegorz,
I’d go with Richard on this one. I’ve used grass for years as recreation, though I never seemed to need as much for effect as some folks.
Nonetheless, I think the best research these days is coming out of France and Israel. America let itself lose all the info it had, and has drug its feet for about, what?, 80 years now?
Herbals are time tested and great for health care, but until you find doctors, or (no joke), if you found a “medicine man” in the hills of central or South America, where they still do that and the skill is ancient, stay with what’s known for now.
The study of ADD as a whole has not been around for that long. I think only like 1965, or 68, or so.
All our ADD thoughts are with you. Hope you don’t burn up, and don’t let yourself burn out. Yell for help when (not if ) you need it.

    Keys.
I spent 12-1/2 years as the swing shift maintenance mechanic and first responder at the biggest hospital/teaching university in Portland (Oregon).
This place has 13,000 people who work there. Like a small city.
    It has LOTS of doors.
There’s a key ring that weighs four pounds, and carries all the keys to closets, electrical vaults, tele-com room, labs, and EVERYONE’S office in eighteen buildings, except the pharmacies and public safety.
I lost that ring one night.
I realized it only half an hour later, but it could be anywhere I have been, and I cover a lot of ground.
Not a frantic search. More of an instant total insanity search. Main hospital, two research buildings, the school of nursing. Nada.
If I don’t find these keys, I am SO fired. The Grand Masters, 4 keys that will open 80% of the doors on campus are on that ring.
In the morning, even if I quit and am gone from here, the three lock Smith’s that work on campus are going to drive to my house, and when they’re done, I’m gonna have more “keyholes” in me than a sieve, and they might incinerate me to make sure.
I beat my head against the wall, and FINALLY remember that I had to call one of the men in the boiler plant earlier to take me with some heavy tools across campus.
Go to the boiler plant and search.
The keys turned up in his truck where they had popped the belt clip I used and fell on the seat.
Don’t never want to do that again.
Funny as a rubber crutch, AFTERWARD !

An interesting post to re-ignite these days…
Years ago, people spoke about “The Dumbing Down of America” and what that would mean to the country.
Now we know, and it’s getting worse every day.
The famous”kid at the fast food place that can’t make change to save his life.”
The kid on TV talking to his dad on the cell while trying to change a tire without knowing what a lug wrench is. (Undoubtedly an honors student in Drivers Ed. When I was young, you had to be able to change a tire by yourself before you could get a permit.
    The WHOLE “Millennials” thing.
Go on from here. “Common Sense” is a misnomer. It’s not common anymore.
Not surprising that we have lots who can whip up a web page in a few minutes, but can’t figure out how to boil rice if they’ve got all week. Oh, and they’ll get EXTREMELY upset if you won’t make it for them , because, after all, that’s what you are SUPPOSED to do, isn’t it?
In a courtroom, you can’t tell the truth, because “truth” has a real tendency to be “politically incorrect”. And we all know who wins that battle these days. Facts don’t CARE how you “FEEL” about them.
It’s why you see the bona fide hero’s and statesmen of 100years ago castigated as criminals and worse today.
Some jerk has convinced enough people that if they complain enough, Thomas Jefferson won’t have slaves this time around, and, it would seem, people REALLY BELIEVE this crap.
So, yeah, you can get upset about it, but, historically, democracies peter out after 200- 250 years. Stand back, crack a beer, and watch the train-wreck happen, because there’s something coming down the tracks that will iron you flat as yesterday’s shirt, and then will keep right on going.
Media is the classroom teacher, but the “education plan” is coming from somewhere way above that.

Try your camping coffee pot with coffee, but no water on an open fire at the campsite. Early morning camp, you wake up to smell the wood smoke, aanndd… that’s not really what you get. Oh, there’s smoke, and it’s coming from the top of the coffee pot.
Looks like a miniature steam donkey on a logging site if you get up close…

    Greetings, Foxglove,
The folks who visit here always seem very nice, and there are great tools here.
I can do the mathematics for machine work, in metric or American standard, but I am about useless at finance.
Depression and a special ability to feel desolately alone in the middle of thousands of people. Oh, yeah.
Yard work. But only if it’s chainsaws, axes, and flame-throwers. I haven’t the patience for flowers and such.
Think nothing about going on. People here seem to listen, pay attention, (in spite of the accursed add), and care.
For all my (I will own this) failures at keeping it all straight, I tend to think the person with add/adhd actually knows more about self-discipline than the average non-add person, because we’ve HAD to all our lives just to hold even and survive.
    Ring NHS and ask.
The very worst they can do is say no. Then you go to their office and beat them with a rubber chicken and challenge them to prove you don’t need assistance!
Keep moving forward. Never give in.

Yeah, I’d agree about the music for sure.
The era doesn’t matter. Add (see?) your own color. It’s all ugly in that situation, and yet, looking back, I did some of my best stuff, being hyper vigilant, while there, and it seems (with emphasis!) that I was more alive then.
The time you appreciate the stress and shock you have learned to deal with in war is when you find yourself at the scene of an accident, and you are the only one who can deal with the blood, disorder, threat (from burning car, what-have-you)and you walk in with your eyes open when other people are afraid of the unknown.
THAT is when you can appreciate being able to shut off emotion and the rest, and carry on. I think all adhd and adders have it to some extent, just from calluses we grew while trying to grow up with it. Those people that look at you are in amazement, but to you, it’s just another day,y’know?
As a vet, let me ask you: which is better, something that is ugly as sin but does it’s job, or something pretty, sweet, and useless?
I’ve lived with that ugly all my life, and have beaten myself senseless trying to make it do its job, and I will back anyone who will try to do so.
I read all of the stuff, and folks seem to think our situation is something bad. I would tell you that : To ADD, is to enhance, make greater, improve, build up, leave it better than you found it. I refuse to think I’m wrong.
We are like the fish trying to climb the tree to please the squirrel while he belittles us.Everyone says we are broken, until they are trying to move their nuts upstream, and then they’re amazed that we can do that so easily in the face of their best failed efforts.
The “normal” world has certain rules that work great in the normal world.Kinda like the laws of physics. But, if reality were to change ever so slightly, and water suddenly would burn, all those rules change.
If the ADD/ADHD people were the dominant specie, the “normal people” would be the “impaired” and we could all laugh and throw stones at THEM for a lifetime or so, and see how THEY react to being called “MISFIT !” by the Higher Authority and all their mindless followers.
My personal belief, sans the formality of religion, is that GOD DON’T MAKE NO JUNK! We are as perfect as any, and when He said “respect thy father and mother” I do. But if he made humor too, then I can rib Him a little like my Dad, too. If He doesn’t have a sense of humor, and maybe even a little ADD of His own to play with, then where did we and a platypus come from?
Yes, young lady. We have a better slot than what even WE might think, and what you want to do Is ADD to it!

    Halobender
Having only recently found out about my “situation”, I can’t say much about the meds available these days.
I was given Wellbutrin for “anxiety issues “ many years ago, and I fell into a bottle for about twenty years, and I do use that leaf. I have always had a thing about medicines, even when little. My doc gets irate because I don’t take the pills he gives me. It’s just handier to forget, y’know?
None the less, I think (how’s that for humor?) that I am about medium for intelligence, and I’ve been kicking around this mud ball for 67years. I tend to give “life experience “ every bit as much credit as “higher learning” when it comes to good tactics, whether for survival or what have you.
Forgive me taking so long to get this out.
When I was young, back in the early 70’s, we had leaf then, too, but NOTHING like we have now. We also had these mushrooms from certain grassy areas in Oregon that produced hallucinations if you ate enough.
What MY point is, is that I was observant back then, even though I didn’t know that add was the cause.
I had all the symptoms, with no info at all.
I observed, that if you ate only a few of these mushrooms, your eyesight improved dramatically for the ability to see detail, and color was enhanced by two more.
If you were eating a lot, you would see patterns on the inside of your eyelids, and you could have a nice little vision.
But: I also noticed that , for me, there was also a marked feeling of physical relaxation that I can only say is like spending too much time in a hot tub, but without the wrinkles.
A few years ago, at Oregon Health Sciences University, they were starting a study about silicibin (sp?) mushrooms and epilepsy.
Question: has anyone heard of any such study that might correlate with add? (Wow! All that for that.)

Andreaaaaaah, I was army. Male, 67, did the whole Vietnam Nam combat thing.
Two of the greatest words that I never heard until 20 years later that I would send you first:

    WELCOME HOME !

Being born in 1951, nobody knew what was “wrong” with us, so we had to survive until now with no programs, meds, or anything.
I’ve fought myself, self loathing, depression, and all for a long time, and I don’t use meds.
I can’t say that’s a good thing, but I am so USED to being this way, that the few times I tried meds they gave me I felt so shut down it felt like I wasn’t remembering my name.
I’ve always likened it to a pachinko machine with the balls rattling down carrying whole concepts, not just thoughts, every bleeding time a ball touches a pin! Twenty balls to a drop, 1000 pins. Gets a little noisy.
I am older now, and I find it a hoot to shut the tv off for three or four days at a time, pick up pencil and paper, and see what inventions fall out on the floor. My personal head playground.
I read that we are better at leaps of intuition than flatlanders.
I have had those times when the light comes on and glares on answers for me instantly, yet I can’t argue others into seeing it, because I looked and SAW it, without going through gyrations to prove it first.
    Instance:
I was at a lady coworkers home, we were going for a presentation appointment. She is driving. She can’t find her keys.
I was sitting at the dining table, while her three older sons,(11 to 15) are cleaning up the room for her and doing dishes.
The youngest was 2, and teething. He would chew on her keys at times. He worshipped the ground his older brothers walked on, and desperately wanted to be like them.
Back to the room; no car keys. She’s going nuts searching.
I said “Look in the dishwasher.”
She thought I was nuts. She looked. There they are. It’s simple.
Little boy watching his idols put the metal things you put in your mouth for eating in the dishwasher. He has, in his hand, something made of metal that you put in your mouth. “It must go in there!”
Intuition? Non-linear logic? I don’t know. But people with add and adhd are BETTER at it! I call that evolved survival adaptation. You know, Veteran, figure it out before it blows up and kills you.
Oh, and never pass a day without laughing. You have survived a place where people would kill you willingly. Now. You go out there and have not a nice life. Have the BEST!

Howdy, all, I’m new. 67 this year. First inkling was 28 years ago when my boy was diagnosed at the age of six.
The doc gave us the news, (my wife, her folks, and me), then said “it’s usually hereditary.” Every eye in the room turned to me, and I’m standing there going “What?” I ignored it for those 28 years, but now I’m retired and have the time to read and learn.
    Folks, this is GREAT!
I now can recognize many of the traits in myself that I always thought was creeping insanity, and see why a lot has happened.
I would like to offer a good trait that we have that the flat lander doesn’t. Adaptability.
Anyone with add/adhd knows we deal with at least a dozen parallel thought processes at any time, and can change direction BEFORE the drop of a hat.The non adder deals with three. Maybe. If change comes suddenly, we definitely have the advantage.
Thanks to all for helping me learn. This is so cool. Perhaps only because of fresh discovery, but tools are tools. If someone give you a tool kit, you don’t go back to rocks and bones.

Looking at my dashboard “brake” light, knowing Nothing about it, so I’m on one knee next to the car, on the street, looking at the little switch button that the spring loaded arm hits.
Mess with it a little, set the brake to get the arm off the button. Mess with it some moreput your finger on the button and grab the release handle in the other hand.
As you pull, this really anxious alarm starts in your head, and the minds eye sees words slowly appear: Bonehead…move…your…fingWHAM!!!,
I read a story about two guys that sell a computer to Himalayan monks to write out the 9 Million Names Of God. Neat story.
I recited those names in about seven seconds flat while dancing around the car like a mad bastard and screaming like a drunk monkey.
All this while, absolutely aware that the only idiot that has had anything to do with this is the bonehead holding his hand and sniveling like a toddler.
Yep, if I had it on film, it would be worth money.
