@MarieAngell, I do hope things are moving in the right direction. Some of the stuff in the recent media has been frustrating.

Yes, @sdwa, I know what you mean about getting it from both sides. I feel like I get constant denial and at the same time constant criticism that I suspect is rooted in you-could-do-better-if-you-just-tried thinking. Like you said, in the ends it’s just different – and contradictory – brands of blame.

As for your self-doubt about your diagnosis, I think it is healthy to question it and to be skeptical – so long as you keep trying to learn more. I for one couldn’t accept the diagnosis instantly. For me it took a long process of hard thinking, re-thinking, and re-examining.  It also took a lot of learning about both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of ADHD. The more I learn about myself and about ADHD the more surely I know I have it, and the more deeply I understand all the ways it affects me.

And … uh … it sounds like your doc might not be the most supportive?

Wearing a fish seems pretty conservative next to that! LOL

My gawd, @Larynxa, what happened during the 3 years of holy dental terror?

Hey, Blue, Larynxa’s right …  it’s a bit of a trip you’re on. But it is a good trip!

In other news, I got my dental done today. And it was no biggy! Like you said, Larynxa! Thank you for talking me down.

A little kid in the waiting room put me to shame. He wasn’t nervous to be there at all. He told me something like this: “Don’t worry, the dentist gives you a freezy and it then so it doesn’t it won’t hurt.” What a sweety.

I wouldn’t do that to you Larynxa but you are such a sweetheart to offer! I’d probably barf on you. I don’t know why I am so stressed. I think it might be because my only experience of dental surgery was my wisdom teeth removal, which was a bad scene. But that was over 20 years ago. I don’t know why.

They have fish in the front of the office in a giant aquarium.  I wish I could watch those fish during the appointment. I’d be okay if there were fish.

How sad would it be to show up with a What-About-Bob style goldfish in a jar tied with string around my neck?

Yes! We really should look more closely at this subject! Let’s all hyperfocus! LOL

But seriously, we could all try to describe our experiences of how we experience focus and set-shifting and flow, hyperfocus, rumination, fixation, perseveration, obsession, etc …

While our dysregulation of attention is absolutely as aspect of our executive dysfunction, it is also possible that this provides easy access to beneficial flow (if I may call it that) in certain circumstances. If we learn enough about it, I personally believe we can find ways to manage and use flow to our favour.

These concepts are not well worked out, so let’s be wary of books or resources etc that try to dictate to us in very certain terms about how we focus wrt these terms. We are the experts in what happens to our attention. How would you describe the way your attention works when you fixate/focus on a thing? How many different and distinct ways does this happen? When is it impairing? When is it helpful?

I’ll contribute my own experience right after I finish this 5000-piece jigsaw puzzle …

Just finished second webinar and identified a few more expensive vices that I can live without. Why for example does my water have to be from the French Alps? (I am so addicted to this stuff; they must be slipping Adderall into it or something).

I feel like an idiot when I look at how much I spend on flexible items.

    So true, @Wgreen!!

And @magster, what an interesting idea to imagine/visualize how things would be different without procrastination.

I just watched the Greg Lemond video!
2: 24:    “Exercise, I am telling you, it opened my brain to learning. But it has to be more than just walking; it’s gotta have some intensity.”

Okay, @Scattybird and @Larynxa, I did it. Well, okay, I started it. I went to the dental surgeon for my consultation. Took me this long to psych myself up. I get the procedure next week. If I show up. Might barf. Pretty sure I will barf. Think my heart rate was about 200 just getting the consultation. I don’t think I’ll be doing the candy dish trick.

@Rick, you will be happy to know that I asked my dentist to refer me to the best; someone who is a real artist. He didn’t hesitate with his recommendation.

    Still might barf.
