Hiya @mistercheese! Hang in there. How were things prior to the last six months?
Sounds like you are on the right track now, scheduling an appointment with a psychiatrist. If you do have ADHD, it is quite possible that you have a second or even third disorder as well, since comorbidity is high. ADHD gets lonely when its all by itself. 🙂
I hope you don’t have a long wait to see the psych? Waiting sucks.
REPORT ABUSEBoo.
REPORT ABUSEI am doing my taxes right now and I am positively stoned on the fumes from the receipts. I’m living on pizza and drinking pop from a plastic bottle to keep hydrated during this tax vigil, and haven’t left this office chair or seen the sun in days.
OMG! I figured it out! Taxes cause ADHD!!!
Cringe. There seems to be a heartening surge in media attention to ADHD lately, but with disheartening negativity (e.g., focusing on stimulant abuse) and misinformation/misassumptions.
REPORT ABUSEYes! And I am sure I was still rude, for ‘lying’ to her, @Larynxa!
@Trashman, your profile name keeps reminding of one of my fave songs from the sixties, so here it is for you, from The Trashmen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GizTr6QLfc
REPORT ABUSEThat’s an interesting thought. Everyone around me assumes my husband is the bread-winner. And I suspect they think I am unemployed or close to it. In truth, I am the major earner. I do nothing to correct the misassumption. That would be in bad taste. But also I somehow revel in it.
I did once have an aunt — a beloved aunt — confront me about this topic when I revealed to her my husband was considering a job transition. She insisted he was locked in his job because he had to support me. I said not. She demanded my earning figure. I did not deliver it. She badgered and badgered until we were talking categories. So I gave in and said yes when she pinned the category . She then snorted – yes, snorted! Loudly! – and walked away from me. I was incredibly hurt.
PS. Can I borrow your beanie? 🙂
REPORT ABUSEI like Mr. Billberry. And to be judged for the content of one’s character … That would be nice Flaws and all. It would be nice to be seen accurately; to be understood.
Even before I got diagnosed, I knew I would have been more acceptable as a man. Women are expected to be socially responsible – often for others beyond themselves (e.g., buying and mailing the birthday cards that their husbands or sons need to send); keeping on top of dates, appointments, etc etc.
Women aren’t supposed to be clumsy. Or late. Or disorganised. Or forgetful…
The list goes on and on.
When the expectations and stereotypes and prejudices based on what you project on your outsides do not match your insides, it is a constant source of social discordance.
Maria certainly does sound like one of us! Please thank your mom for suggesting you share the link. 🙂
REPORT ABUSEI will be happy to be the founding member.
REPORT ABUSEOh, you are so not alone, pheonix! This is part of ADHD. You should see the bruises I am sporting today.
REPORT ABUSELMAO!
REPORT ABUSEI’ll buy a fat-boy-propeller-beanie-suit and go around in it for a week and let you know…
REPORT ABUSEFebruary 8, 2013 at 12:23 pm in reply to: Another article in the Star…and more ignorant comments, and some sensible ones #118888I cringe when I read statements that try to capture it and end up sounding ridiculous.
In response to a crisis, she became massively overwhelmed and found herself spinning and going from room to room in her apartment and not quite knowing what she should be doing next … Thus, a friend suspected she had ADHD? Anyone could react that way to a parent’s death.
The man in the article wanted into med school. This new study found high rates of stimulant abuse in US medical students and, interestingly, considers the effect this may have on their later prescribing behaviour.
