I started 10 mg of Adderall XR yesterday. Concerta was causing me to be sleepy and unfocused even more than usual. What a difference the Adderall is making. It feels like a dose of caffeine throughout the entire day. I am able to get back to a though much easier, although not immediately, and memory seems to be the same or slightly improved. On second day now and other than needing to keep fluids up, it has been good so far.

Does anyone know if Adderall can affect mood? My dysthymia seems reduced, but this could be placebo.

@2Raddled sorry to hear about the interstitial cystitis (IC). I suffer from that prior to starting Adderall along with mild Crohn’s, which must mean my immune system is confused, with flares up happening multiple times throughout the year. So far the Adderall hasn’t triggered anything. Mind you, I am only on day two and at a low dose of 10 mg. Diet is probably the MOST important way of controlling IC. Elmiron is used as well, but it takes months to see an effect, if any, and is expensive. Apparently while Dex or Adderall is being marketed as a treatment for IC in some circles others are claiming it leads to flare ups. I guess it depends what is causing the IC in the first place for the person.

Mass Effect 2 has really sucked me in. It has enough RPG elements to satisfy my love of the genre, the setting and script writing are first rate, and the visuals are very good. Unlike Dragon Age, I haven’t lost interest as time goes on, something that happens very often with a lot of games even when I enjoy them. Other recent games I have enjoyed playing are Infamous and Batman Arkham Asylum. When I need relaxation though, I like to play Flower.

I am not offended at all. I am glad to hear that your confidence has improved. In my case, the anxiety issues are irrational. They are not linked to a fear of my own performance or self esteem issues, which I am sure would see an improvement with ADHD treatment. My dysthymia may certainly see an improvement for this reason.

I am not giving up on treating the ADHD, although I will have to try a different medication. I just felt that my doctor was focusing on only one aspect of the problem and not necessarily the worst of the three.

My 3rd day was no better for improvements to my attention. The drug actually clouded my thoughts. At least my eyes stopped feeling like my pupils were overly dilated. I am not taking it a fourth day.

I am going to give the Concerta one last go today. I got a good night’s sleep last night so I should be well rested. I also wanted to try it again at work as that way I can test productivity on the med.

I doubt it is dehydration as I drank quite a few mugfuls of water at work and still felt awful. The drug just makes me feel stoned and tired. Even if it were dehydration, I can’t drink anymore fluids than I already do so it is not a good solution for me.

I am on my second day of non-generic Concerta 18 mg and my last. It is making me sleepy and preventing me from focusing at all. My eyes feel hypersensitive and my memory is impaired more than usual. Thankfully I am only on a two week trial, but I cannot function. I took ritalin (methylphenidate) when I was younger, 24 years ago, and used to get headaches, but I don’t remember anything like feeling like this. I wanted to try the SSRI route as I also experience dysthymia and anxiety, but the psychiatrist wanted to start with the most common stimulant, methylphenidate, believing the comorbidities were being caused by the ADHD and not co-existing on their own. My son is on biphentin, and I sure hope he doesn’t feel like this on it.

I used to think that I was an INTP, but truth be told I hate theory and care only about application. These days, when I take the M-B test I come out as an ISTP. I am surprised there are not more on the blog as this type tends to prefer action, an ADHD trait, with little care for theory. Very hands on.

However, one could argue that ISTPs are less likely to respond in a forum and therefore they are only under represented because of the nature of the type to not bother with conversing with others (they are introverted) and to want to tackle things themselves.
