Oh wow – other boards too. That does seem a bit annoying. Well – I have to say, if you try to sell a questionable product on a board with smart people, I think you’ll find that they just shoot holes in the gimmick. It might do more harm than good to your sales.
If it’s good, they probably don’t need a “whisper campaign” becuase we would already be talking about it here. Silly marketers!
REPORT ABUSEMarch 3, 2012 at 12:03 am in reply to: Is there a good alternative II heard AddieUP was a good one #112960You never know – the first person tagged the post “snake oil,” so maybe they really were just coming on here to get an opinion. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt unless I learn otherwise. They at least took the time to write a legitimate post asking a question to the group – where’s the harm?
I feel for anyone if they are unable to use one of the first line drugs for financial reasons, side effects or other reasons. I guess at that point you might be in a position to try some of these kinds of supplements – if you had run out of all other options.
Suspicious or not, I think it’s healthy to discuss why we would or wouldn’t use the product – could help someone avoid wasting their money.
I checked out the website, and wasn’t impressed. There wasn’t anything on there about clinical trials or endorsements from any legitimate professionals… so if they were here to sell the product, they came to the wrong place – I’ll go out and say it – I wouldn’t personally try it because I don’t like to experiment on my poor brain with unproven substances. That’s just my own personal feeling – as a lay person.
REPORT ABUSE@toofat – the Report button shows up in blue at the bottome of each post.
You have to be logged in or the button doesn’t show.
So if you tend to read posts when you’re not logged in, you won’t even see the “Report” link.
That’s thrown me off a couple of times!
REPORT ABUSEMarch 2, 2012 at 10:06 pm in reply to: Is there a good alternative II heard AddieUP was a good one #112958I checked out the ingredients – several, I’ve heard don’t help. Dr. J said he was wary of nootropics. I think these ingredients have not been scientifically tested, so – they may or may not be helpful. Just my take on it – best to have a psychiatrist guide you if possible.
REPORT ABUSEI love it toofat – the “what about you?” trap! That one gets me every time.
I’m trying to be a good listener, trying to keep it about them and not me and then bam – 30 minute monologue about me, followed by realization that the person is just looking for a way to get out of the conversation.
Let’s see – turn it back around techniques – “Me? Same ole, same ole… anyway, you still haven’t told me about your family – what grade is your daughter in? Wow – that’s such a great age – what’s her favorite subject?”
haha – munch
REPORT ABUSEThe thing about ADHD is that when your in a non-distracting environment, and you enjoy the task, you’re going to do better. The tasks in lumosity require more focus than your average situation, so they seem hard for us.
Still – if we are lacking the chemistry to focus, more practicing of the tasks might not be the answer – or only part of the answer?
An interesting idea would be to try these lumosity puzzles on my laptop in different environments and times of day to test for my best working environment and most focused time of day… color me intrigued!!
I suppose it doesn’t have to be lumosity – just any task where you can measure your ability to focus based on how fast or accurate you did the task – sudoku?
then see how that goes when you change your parameters: medicated/nonmedicated, morning/afternoon, good night’s sleep/bad night’s sleep, healthy meal/unhealthy meal…
REPORT ABUSEI really enjoyed the free trial I did of Lumosity – I’m not sure if it was helping me or just another hyperfocus, but I would have kept using it if it was free…

REPORT ABUSEFebruary 25, 2012 at 2:47 am in reply to: coach or parrasite .. how do i find out short of buying in? #112214Thanks for starting this thread Tea – I was wondering the same myself. I’m willing to invest in myself and try coaching, but I don’t want to get taken for a ride.
An ADD specialist who does coaching and counseling just moved to our town from a large metro area, and I can see all kinds of great reviews about him online (not on his own site). I’m going to meet with him next week. I’ll let you guys know if I learn anything from the process.
I’ve tried some regular counselors, but I think they were the “basic” type that toofat mentioned. sdwa – great information – there’s no CHADD in my area, but I’m going to check out that video.

REPORT ABUSEFebruary 23, 2012 at 9:13 pm in reply to: Well, that was disappointing (my "doctor's" visit) #112697ashockley – don’t despair! I think many of us can share that we have had to be persistent and go through multiple appointments with various professionals to finally get a real assessment.
It’s so frustrating to feel like you’re getting nowhere, or to think that you will just be pigeon-holed as you have been in past situations. It’s only natural to fear that. Still, if you keep at it, and continue to get notes down on why you believe you need the assessment, you will be moving in the right direction.
Here’s a thread I wrote when I was going through the same thing – check it out… Hang in there!

REPORT ABUSEI have hopes that everyone can achieve satisfaction and fulfillment in their work – especially if they are able to identify what they truly want out of a job and where their talents and abilities lie. I don’t believe that anyone – ADHD or otherwise – is entitled to a particular pay grade or advancement opportunity. A business that advances people who don’t deliver results is likely to fail, causing many to lose their job.
However, I think that responsible, conscientious ADD’ers who are willing to do the work to identify medications, tools and strategies that make them competetive, should have the same opportunity as anyone else. Allowing some simple accomodations to the work environment should not be too much to ask. Sadly, we fear revealing our disability and have to self-accomodate in secrecy to survive…
REPORT ABUSEFebruary 22, 2012 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Need some reputable Amantadine for ADHD resources to share with Doctor. #112574There hasn’t been much talk about Amantadine on this site – don’t know much about it. I guess you’ll have to educate us?
In googling around, it seems like there are people using it and liking it, but not a lot of studies done.
It seems like doctors don’t like to prescribe stimulants, so you might have an easy time getting a non-stimulant…
REPORT ABUSEThink ahead of time – why are you reading this? What information are you trying to gain from the reading? Then perhaps you can skim over certain things and read slowly and carefully the part that is important to you. Also, you will be less likely to become bored and stop paying attention to what you are reading.
Sometimes I read several pages, and realize I have no idea what I read. I was only reading the words aloud to myself, but not paying the least attention to the meaning.
For example, with a newspaper article, there should be a who, what, where, why and when. You can skim straight to those parts and understand the article without having to read every word.
